So, /v/! How's that game going? Any progress?
>>383494445
haven't worked on it in weeks
being an adult is suffering
Well, you know.
>>383494445
progress fucking slow, thinkin' about making a patreon of it cuz i need money
should i?
>>383495046
lol
>>383494445
My harddrive crashed.
Haven't started making a game because I don't have a comp, a team, a planning schedule, money, or any grasp on how engines work, but I really want to make a cool space-themed action RPG. Afraid that 10 party members might be too ambitious for a first game though. I really hope I can make something fun people would enjoy some day.
>everytime I open up the project UE has disconnected some pins by itself
>have to go around fixing all the compile errors every single time by connecting all the loose pins
>crashes once every hour
Really doesn't help my motivation.
>tfw you can only do shitty renpy rpgs
>>383494445
Haven't touched the matter for good two years. Not sure if I ever come back.
Worked on some materials and followed a short and easy procedural cloud/smoke tutorial. That's all for the day but better than nothing I suppose.
Why does UE4 collision have to be such a bitch? I'm using moveupdatedcomponent and half the time my AI moves straight through objects.
>>383498124
Could you link that tutorial for me homie?
>>383495661
You'd best get started then, anon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8A0Etf-ekY&t
Super easy and basic, with a really nice result. In the comments some guy recommended a slightly altered version which produced the cloud on the left in my pic. Looks more natural but has a few funny little visual hiccups. It's also much more resource intensive.

Meant for:

>>383499462
Thanks nigga
>>383499384
>tesselation
guys, don't use this, even when multiplied by 0 it eats ALOT of performance, you better make a highly subdivided mesh than use this, only really use it in fuckhuge terrain materials on high end games
>>383499856
Fuck toasterfags.
>>383494445
It's been just over 3 years now and I can finally see the end. All it takes is 30minutes a day. It doesn't matter how much you're not in the mood, just force yourself to sit down and work for 30 minutes and eventually it gets done.
>>383499856
what the fuck is an alot
>>383494445
not at all since UE4 won't even start properly
>>383500195
thanks anon I was hoping someone would post it
thank god this is still a thing
>>383500054
Well said, anon. Even a complete beginner can do something fulfilling in an hour or so. watching tutorials, putting what you know into practice, just for ONE hour of your day...
it's honestly amazing how much you can learn in a month doing this
First model of my """game"""
This is the boss of the area, a gian viking. I want to make one low poly level souls-like just to see how hard would that be in UE 4,if its decent i will probably do more just for the lulz. I have been learning blender for like 3 days, shits hard.
>>383501110
using a tutorial?
>>383501757
Nah, i have a basic low poly human body that i made (with a little help of bluesheets and shit like this)and i just add shit to that model, in this case the axes the boots the beard the gloves and the helmet/cap whatever that is i dont even know lol
I have never programmed anything in my life.
What would I need to know to make a basic ass 2d platformer?
>>383502078
basic of C++ that will let you allow knowing the basics of C# to use unity.
Or just use that C++ and use Unreal Engine 4 which has something that i like to call programming legos, the blueprints. Problem is UE4 is way worse than Unity for 2D platformers, still doable of course
>>383502078
it's like dark souls
pretty difficult at first since you're probably not used to it, then it gets easier n easier
>>383502345
Cool. I started an html tutorial a while ago before figuring out it's for web pages. Will try C++ I guess.
>>383502078
If you want to program it all from scratch, a good deal.
If you want to just like make game, gamemaker and unreal engine let you make game without a single line of code
>doing "c++ for unreal" course in udemy
>first 30 parts were making a basic command line game
>300 parts remaining
>>383502757
>anything difficult in any aspect of life is now dark souls
>>383504441
>tfw want to start learning Unreal but dont want to learn (even tho i know a bit of it already) that fucking fossil death in the water C++
>>383505981
i was extracting some tekken 7 models and looking in the files, they mostly use blueprints for everything, if ya gunna make a simple game for yourself you dont even need c++
>>383504441
>>383505981
Do some of those basics then fuck off to your own little project like recreating Asteroids or something. Much more fun to learn that way.
You have no idea how perfect it is going. This game is pure perfection, and once these last micro-bugs are eradicated I will upload the game to steam.
>>383507778
Post sum dev stuff m8, all I saw so far was this singular screenshot.
>>383504441
>decide I should gamedev
>learn C++
>learn UE4
>learn VFX
>learn Substance
>still have to learn animation
>still have to learn modelling
>still have to learn ZBrush
>still have to produce the content for the game
>>383507778
>v1.0 RELEASE
>has only 1 screenshot as advertisement
kek
>>383495046
If you have a working demo already, why not?
>>383509387
i don't know if i should for how shit things are looking right now,i only have the basic stuff and have been wasting too much time on shitty details
