Be honest /v/

Do you cheat in video games?
>>
I remember using wall hacks in need for speed world a few times
>>
Yes. Save editing, cheatengine, the works.
>>
In game cheats? sure. Big Head Mode is laughs

outside program cheats? no
>>
yes because the gameplay of cheat engine is often better than the one of the game
>>
singleplayer, sure
>>
No, there's no fun in games if there isn't a challenge
>>
Yes, offline game tho.
Is this bad? Should I be ashamed like people who play in easy mode or something? What's the point of this thread? Who's that anime girl. Are there porn?
>>
Single player to avoid grinding, probably because the game is boring me to death or i simply got jaded (and i need those cheevos).

Multi player just to give money to people in GTA:O because fuck R*
>>
I cheated perks to 25 in kf2 because fuck that grind I want to be credit to team
>>
>>383492519
Bet your ass famalam.
Cheat Engine is mai waifu.
>>
This thread reaffirms the fact that /v/ doesn't actually play videogames.
>>
i savescum instead of deleting my save, erasing sys32, killing myself, then starting over as an infant.
>>
I hack in some multiplayer games for griefing purposes

I won't cheat in a game I enjoy, it defeats the purpose
>>
>>383492519
nope, too lazy to even find out how
save states from emulators don't count really
>>
Single player, sure, there's no shame in harm in fucking around in the game.

But if you cheat in a multiplayer competitive game, that's just really shameful and telling of your insecurity in your gaming skill.
>>
>>383492519
No, but if it pisses me off I drop the game for a year
>>
>>383493161
Well, 20 to 25 is just exhausting as hell if you play multiple classes, plus, nobody is actually playing on HoE so who cares anyway, it's just perk training maps and lvl 0 that join randomly.

>>383493374
It's shameful just to play competitive games nowadays tbqhfam
>>
>>383492519
In fighting games or something similar, no.
Old single player games, sometimes I cheat.

Plenty of times in mmos and single player.
Never PvP because I'm not a shitter.
>>
>>383492519
Quite often. Especially if the game is boring and the only way to make it fun is to cheat.
>>
>>383492519
The most modding I've done is installing a Too Many Items mod for Minecraft and changing a picture for the Conscientious Objector in TF2
>>
>>383492519
Constantly. Save editing, build respeccing, items, chance rigging, the works, I cheat to my last. Fuck grinding. And if the game is just grinding, chances are I'm not playing it.

That said I don't cheat in multiplayer PvP or through actual gameplay because I'm not a cunt.

>>
>>383492519
I never did aside from joke cheat like cars and space dude in age of empire or tank rain in gta
>>
>>383492519
I use godmode a lot in games like Skyrim where the combat isn't the appeal of the game, but mostly I enjoy playing games as they're meant to be played.
>>
I cheat from time to time, but mostly not to give myself an advantage, just to "fix" some stuff that looks broken.

Most of the time it's so I can fix some dumb glitches that stop me from progressing in the game.
>>
I use cheatengine all the time.
>>
>>383492519
>play Pokemon with pals at school
>"wow anon you always win even though we have the same pokemon"
>teach them optimal training and breeding

In single player yes sometimes.
Mostly the second playthrough.
>>
>>383492519
If I feel cheated then yes. For example yesterday I was farming mendicant staff in ds3.
I kill the guy 45 times but he didn't drop it so I used cheat engine to replace an item.

Yes I used savestates to beat castlevania and the pause trick in mega man 1 to beat yellow devil.
>>
>>383492519

Only after I played the game legitimately.
>>

No, but i have fun when i see people hacking in competitive csgo and my team getting assblasted spamming shit in all-chat, the hackers do it for that reason as well

>>
>>383495181
New Vegas' economy is super fucked and just doesn't work. I'll never understand why they design vendors with limited cash and low resources.

Also I'll use save states as long as I can justify them as being fair (as in using them when I want to quit, or to bypass a lengthy boring segment that I don't want to replay a lot just because the game has meh checkpoints).

I have used savestates to beat some hard ass games (the final bosses of Rondo of Blood and PS2 Shinobi come to mind) but I don't really consider that legit beating the game. Save states are odd in that they can
>>
>>383492519
I cheat in payday 2 by using a mod that let's me use 2 perk decks at the same time or let me use a custom deck
Let's me hit 100 dodge chance
>>
>>383492519
I savescum sometimes but I try not to.
>>
In single player games sometimes not online anymore, I use to hack in 1.6 when I was like 13 but I got VAC'd and I haven't cheated online since.
>>
>>383496181
There's a mod for that
>>
>>383496206
>limited cash and low resources
Because it's a post apocalypse world? Beside, 8k caps is more than enough and you can always use wait to reset.
>>
>>383496497
None of that is a good argument for bad game design.

>>383496107
A lot of people hack in multiplayer just because they want to be good, but can't. There's a fucking ton of people that try to come off as legit despite clearly hacking and hiding it badly, and the only reason they hide it badly is because they're actually bad at the game.

They want to know what it's like to actually be good at a multiplayer game, to win and shittalk the enemy team, but they can't actually get good so they use hacks to simulate what it's like.
>>
>>383492519
Yes, though it's situational. Generally speaking, the longer it takes to complete a game the more likely I am to start saying "fuck it, I want this over with" and begin taking liberties as needed. This point probably isn't until I've spent a good 60-80 hours with a game, though. Aside from that, any time there are achievements/unlocks/etc that are dependant on something that it's impossible to fail at and are only a time-sink(i.e. "get Lv100 on all characters lol" or "bop 100,000 field mice on the head"), I'll cheat that shit as soon as it seems reasonable to stop caring about whatever way it might be powering me up.
>>
>>383492519

I used to. My cousin had a Game Genie for the NES, and he always brought it when he came over to play video games. After that, I got a Game Genie for the SNES, and for PlayStation and N64 I had GameSharks. I pretty much only played games that had cool codes for those devices. I also used cheats for pretty much every game I played on PC. I remember spending hours looking for good trainers for Diablo and Diablo 2. It wasn't till my senior year of high school that I realized cheating my way through games kind of defeated the purpose of playing them, and after that I stopped cheating all together.

I'm 31 now and I still haven't managed to beat an episode of Doom without IDDQD and IDKFA.

There was a time years ago when I had a PS2 gameshark and would use it on every game possible. Nowadays though cheating makes me feel guilty and like I didn't really beat the game. The only thing resembling cheating I do now is using the console for some minor stuff in Bethesda games.
>>
>>383498565
yeah I know that assailed.
>>
>>383492519
In-game built in cheats, action replay, gameshark yes.
Never used save editing, save states or cheat engine before.
I don't cheat in multiplayer (hardly play it) but I do in singleplayer.
>>
>>383497878
>npc cry that they are poor and can barely make enough to live
>have unlimited money
"Good" game design.
>>
>>383498565
>he doesn't do no glitch run
>>
I cheated on Devil Survivor 2, I introduced an Infinite Health code because I got tired of dying.

Then an enemy petrified and instakilled all my party.
>>
Years ago? Yes. I fucked around all the time with gamesharks and action replays to unlock shit all the time.

Now? No. Only time I ever cheat now is if:

>The game fucks up and I need to use cheats to unfuck it.
>I have a save on another console/lost my save/corrupted save and I don't want to redo all the shit I did before.
>Modding the game to remove a annoying element (Like weight limits in modern fallout/elder scrolls games).
>The rare times I just want to get a game done and there is some bullshit that will make the game more tedious (This one is rare, and usually goes along with the game fucking up)

I don't like using cheats, since it feels like it cheapens the experience.
>>
Botting POE isn't cheating it's how the game works

Might read a guide if something I'm searching or stuck on pisses me off too much.

Cheat engine on porn RPGmaker games, mostly upping speed because they're slow as shit, sometimes giving myself unlimited cash or good stats. I'm here to fap, not indulge in your idea of a "game" you fucking weebs.

fucking around for some laughs

The closest thing to cheating in videogames I do is that I alt+f4 as soon as someone dies in Darkest Dungeon.
I feel embarrassed but at this point it's pure reflex I do without thinking.
>>
Please tell me I'm not the only one here who hacked in Club Penguin
>>

>>
>>383495114
>>383500051
why even play the game then
can you not roll when the big baddie attacks you and attack afterwards?
>>
I ruined a lot of games for myself by cheating so I stopped doing it.
>>
>>383499020
>repairing weapons can costs tens of thousands of caps
>selling items is probably the best way to make more money
>vendors carry a laughably small amount of caps
>need to hop around to a bunch of different vendors just to make decent cash

It's an inconvenience at best and does nothing to benefit the player, and again you're arguing that "realism makes the game better" which has been proven to be a false argument over and over again.

Might as well argue that anyone not wearing full body armor should die in 1 to 2 shots, and that fist weapons should do no damage compared to guns.

I often try to but usually find that trying to make the game easier so I can rush through it just makes it harder. You can have as much souls in DS as you want or as much gold in Shovel Knight as you can cheat in but if you play like shit you're still going to die in a pit. And because of that I end up deleting the cheaty characters and just play the game legitimately, it's happened with a few games over the years.

I've also tried cheating in emulated JRPGs to get around all those bullshit random encounters but oh fuck it's not like cheating stops them from happening altogether and it's not like they take that long anyway so fuck it just play it normally. Being able to speed up the emulator is a greater help than any gameshark hacks.

The only multi-player game I'd cheat in was Duck Game, just a small 10% speed boost with cheat engine for a slight edge people would never notice. Don't play that game anymore, would recommend it to anyone on /v/ though. Play Duck Game if you haven't, while there's still a player base.
>>
>>383500561
Nah I mostly use the simple methods like speedhacks in CE or save editing through SGedit or that other RPGmaker save editor, forget its name atm.

The only thing I'd know about editing these games would be RGSSAD - RGSS2A - RGSS3A Decrypter that I use to extract their archives and apply translations but thats all. Maybe /hgg2d/ could help you more than me.

Used to hack in shitty korean MMOs for laughs. If I had done it properly as a kid I would have actually made a fucking ton of money off of it too. Otherwise cheats are fucking great once you've played a game 100% through, can always brighten the experience, or cut out some major bullshit.
Real question here, is there ANY risk with cheating on steam games so long as they aren't on VAC servers? Single player or otherwise, has there ever been a case of somebody getting in trouble for such a thing?

Other than VAC bans there are game bans, which were added recently and they show up under your VAC bans text. If a developer asks Valve, they can add them.
Rockstar's games, for example, are (probably) not certified, because those who were - often and unjustly since their detection system is ultra faulty - banned from GTAO don't have anything written on their profiles from what I've seen.
