BotW Any % speedruns are only 59.5% gameplay, the rest is cutscenes.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Literally the worst speedrunning category ever given to any game in history. I went through a 40:58 speedrun and with a stopwatch counted 24:22 of cutscenes.

This needs to die, its fucking pathetic that a game with such a wide array of possibilities is reduced to almost being a majority cutscenes.

All main quests remains the best category I've ever seen and is doable in under 4 hours, possibly 3.
>>
>Watching other people play games

I'll never understand this trend. I mean, maybe when you're in the room next to a friend playing.
>>
yea, because nintendo really designed botw around 40 minute speedruns

the fact that half of a speedrun are cutscenes completely invalidates the entire game
>>
And the majority of SM64 is spent in cutscenes too if you play optimally. What's your point, OP?
>>

Kek, this.

This would be like only eating the outer edge of a pizza and then bitching that it's all crust.

Anon, never forget that speedrunners and their fans fall into three categories: Autistic, Retarded, or Both.

Dunno why people acting like I'm upset that people break the game.

I'm pointing out that for speedrunning, usually the most-played categories are ones that feature a lot of room for optimisation with perfect execution required hundreds of times.

BotW any % is literally run around, cutscenes, run around, cutscenes, boss battle. Its fucking awful when theres so much of the game that can be speedrun, yet this category is chosen.

Yes SM64 is mostly cutscenes when done any%, but 120 star is the main category. BotW main category is any % and its the worst thing ever conceived in speedrunning. Besides speedrunning itself, of course.

TAS runs are interesting, at least with 2D platformers or action-adventure games. It's amusing to see the player pull off so many different tricks and exploits. Metroid TAS videos are probably the most entertaining of all:
http://tasvideos.org/Search.html?key=super+metroid
http://speeddemosarchive.com/SuperMetroid.html
(none of these videos are commentated, as that's not a typical practice with TAS)
>>
>>383489932
>24:22 of cutscenes

That will change when people discover ways to abuse memory corruption, or skip, cancel or bypass cutscenes. BotW is still a relatively new game.

OoT's memory has been so thoroughly corrupted that speedrunners can literally skip straight to the final boss fight. While that may not make for an entertaining demonstration, it just goes to show that speedrunners will eventually find ways to get around cutscenes or other time-consuming obstacles.

>>
>>383491538
How is this bait?

The numbers are real.

I had a stopwatch which I stopped and started at each cutscene and loading animation. For example as soon as you get to the end of the shrines its 48 seconds, mashing through the text, before the game is playable again. It adds up really fast.
>>
>>383492702
Are speedrunners not allowed to skip cutscenes or something?
>>
>>383492960

they are but i´s not always possible
>>
>>383493039
>>383493039
I mean actually skip them. Cutscenes can be skipped in BotW.
>>
>>383493176
Watch a speedrun of it and see how long it takes to enter the shrine, receive the upgrade to the slate, receive the orb and leave the shrine. All of those combined is over 90 seconds per shrine and you can't skip those.

I legitimately watched a world record speedrun and timed it. You can't skip those sorts of scenes.

There's no barrier of entry or quality control to play video games. All you need is money. If you're watching people play sports or act, they've met some standard of qualification to be there.

TAS runs are literally the worst category of speedruns. They aren't doable at home with real hardware. You aren't watching someone play a real game, you are watching them run their fingers along the stitching of their frankenstein monster.

>>383491809

>>
>>383491407
Your analogy is half-baked anon
>>
>>383497147
And there's the fact that video games aren't social by nature. It's a player and a screen. The only reason you wouldn't just play the game yourself is if you're underage with no cash so you watch someone else do it. No one goes over to their friends place to watch them play a game. You want a turn. It's purely money based.
>>
Well no shit most any% runs are garbage depending on how much you skip. What did you expect from a game that literally tells you that you can feel free to go to Ganon from the start?
>>
>game is shit because autistic speedrunners have to watch cutscenes
>>
>>383497242
Some can be, some can't.
>>
Is OP complaining that he didn't like the way he chose to play this game? I'm not even sure who he's railing against. Nintendo? Speedrunners? God?

>pathetic that a game with such a wide array of possibilities is reduced to almost being a majority cutscenes.

But it was OP who personally reduced it. Speedrunning is all about reducing any game to as fine a science as possible. I don't think speedrunners have shit to say about game design. Because as far as I can tell, they aren't playing the game when they are speedrunning, they are playing a metagame whose rules are whatever the base game is. This is further borne out by the fact that any one of them can tell you that they are deliberately not playing the game as it was designed to be played.

>>
>>383497751
FFS why can't people read

I said that any% should not be the MAIN category featured at big events.

Countless other speedrun games can be glitched to the end within minutes but no one does it because theres almost no room to optimise it and its boring, OoT being the perfect example.

On the big stage like GamesDoneQuick, no one wants to see that shit. Thats why there was 120 star Mario 64, all secrets Doom, majoras mask all masks etc.
>>
>>383491505
No, they cant. An analogy of poor terms is one of the most commonly used logical fallacies.
>>
>>383501320
Okay, I can live with that, and I'd more or less agree. A game that distinguishes between beaten and complete should probably be completed, because that's more impressive...athletic, if you will.

But I also think that when it comes to games people should do whatever they want. If people want to see BotW beaten as fast as it possibly can, then just step outside for 40 mins. I think there should always be a way a to skip cutscenes anyway. Problem is they are used more and more to hide loading times.
