I actually like it.
I must say I really, really hate losing progress in video games. If that happens I feel like it's a huge waste of my most precious resource - time.
Inb4 casul. I like challenging games, but I vastly prefer not making progress, until I overcome a challenge, say, have to retry a boss fight over and over again, compared to losing all the progress I made so far at some point, and having to go through the exact same stuff again.
I don't mind the grinding as long as it's moderate. It even adds some more longevity to the game, and you don't feel like it's a waste of time, because you unlock some new stuff in the process that carries over to the next session.

The whole point of roguelikes is the progress you keep is the knowledge you gain. This barely matters in roguelites because they're casualised to the point where there just isn't much to learn.
