This never bothered me, I would get messages like "lmao you bought that" or something when playing and I'd just say "yeah" and they just kinda dropped it.

That's not the fucking point and if you can't realize it then gtfo. People have been calling for this feature way before essentially H-games have been coming out on steam. They've never had a decent feature to hide activity plain and simple. I mean you can easily look at twitch streamers in this regard and they have to actively log in and out of steam because of how bad it is. Offline =/= Hidden.
Likewise while I can understand that Valve wants to push their merchandise by announcing to friends what they've bought, it's incredibly annoying that I don't have an option to not scream about what I have or have not purchased.

It's just fucking stupid but they won't fix their shit. I can't even remember the last big update that came out to fix stuff.
I think it was the community update? 2012?
