For starters, the thread is about weapon DESIGN.
Nu-ID & Bethesda have clearly never held a real weapon in their hands, and that trashly polymer-box design already plagued Quake 4 back in the days.

Second, ALL the weapons in nu-Duum suck major ass, partially because they had to make the players use their tacked-on upgrade systems. Shotguns lack reach and penetration, pain-staggering is practically not a thing, and there's a pile of "side-grade" weapons that serve no purpose and just clutter the arsenal - like the HAR being now a (better) Chaingun.

The design is fine, it's meant to convey a sense of technological advancement while still being grounded enough that we could instantly recognize it. And it does it's job.

The only thing you have a legit complaint about is the upgrade system because it forces you to play certain ways in a finite arena that can potentially rob you of fun. Other than that the weapons are fine with most being enjoyable. Shotguns are meant for getting up close and personal, not to pick them off from a distance, the Assault Rifle is meant for medium range combat that allows you to focus more on movement, the RPG is meant for splash damage against groups etc. etc.

That is because the weapon doesn't exist in either of the Tactics Advance games. The closest thing to the weapon is the Judge skill for Bishops. It is presumably a reference to the protagonist of Threads of Fate.
