never owned a psp. my first handheld since the game boy was the 3ds. are these still worth playing, or was it a "you had to be there" kind of thing. also, i don't need an emulation machine, except maybe ps1 games, but most ps1 games feel pretty dated now.

How hard/easy is it to cfw a 3000 with the latest firmware?

They're still expensive as fuck (at least in Europe). If you don't find a game that you really want to play don't bother (yet).
You can do a lot of stuff with it, but besides playing games it's nothing that a smartphone can't do.

Yes, it did.
The first version of Infinity caused a small number of bricks on a certain model of 3000 (07g, I believe).
Then the developer released another version and it caused bricks for even more people.
Now the website is down and Infinity is somewhat hard to find. Still works fine on my 3000 though, thankfully.

However on late 2k and all 3k models its not permanent(last time I checked, but that was years ago), you need to run program from the games menu before you can play pirated games and run homebrew/emulators. The "perma"-softmod on 2k wasn't that complicated from what I remember.

It takes five minutes, it's not permanent, if your battery goes dead you have to run Easy Recovery which takes about 30 seconds and you're good to go again.
