Last sonic game i bought was unleashed...i borrowed a friends games and nintendo consoles to play the newer ones but they did nothing for me. They just feel so radically different than anything from classic sonic to around 2008 or 2009. Anyone know what i mean? Sonic mania is like a godsend to me, this is what ive been wanting since i first played the mega collection all those years ago.

Meanwhile im just trying to figure out what the fuck is the point of forces. It seems to exist for literally no reason beyond cashing in on the fan character affinity? do those people even care about sonic anymore? last time i heard people coming up with their own characters and talking about the lore was the days of sonic adventure 2 and sonic heroes. Forces very existence is just so bizarre to me

Eh...it was alright. Really beautiful graphics and music, sonics travels were fun to watch, and the day levels were amazing. The night levels sucked but at least they were atmospheric and had more good music.

Really though, could have only done with one boost game. It was a good shakeup needed from 06 but not the permanent direction the series should have went

Well that is just flat out wrong anon. Every person ive seen who has said this has always proven themselves wrong by stumbling hard and getting bad times and ranks. I would know, sonic unleashed is the last sonic game i put a signifcant amount of time into. Coming from someone who did clean 100% runs of the classics, all emblems of sa1/2, all A ranks in heroes, all emeralds in advance/rush.

I didnt have a problem with the werehog concept itself, or even the slower pace really. I like carnival night and even a few chaotix levels for example. I also thought the level design was generally sharp. My problems are all from the combat, it was just so sloppy because they did it in house rather than get someone like team ninja who makes those types of games for a living to handle it. If you played the DLC, you will notice it is more platform intensive. Holoska, chun nan, mazuri, adabat, and empire cities have some really fun night level DLC. But its that damn fucking combat that ruined it...

I guess yeah, boost isnt my favorite style either. Adventure/heroes are my ideal playstyles for 3D sonic. But the day levels in unleashed are spectacularly orchestrated i think. They are pure kinetic action courses where every input must be done perfectly otherwise it may cost you gravely. Everything else after though? The so praised sonic colors and generations? Those were like diet versions of the sonic unleashed day levels. Glad you enjoyed the werehog though. I wouldnt mind it revisited if they scrapped all the combat gameplay from him. I got some knuckles vibes too. It just felt cool tip toeing over skyscrapers and oceans, or exploring little desert towns, or battling the chilling winds right above the jet black water in the freezing north pole. The general level design and atmosphere direction are seriously top notch stuff i must say

Its funny, i also remember thinking how the night levels should have been perhaps more free range and with knuckles. You would have to glide, dig, and explore around to find the emeralds and then form them in some type of mini game and then give it to sonic so he can put it in the temple.
I was really disappointed when they didnt keep reusing the "world adventure" theme from unleashed. Every boost game after should have been sonic and a friend exploring new parts of the world. Sonic plays the same and has similar race course like level design, and the new friend would have their own style. I remember i wrote in a notepad during school, designs for a tails, amy, shadow, rogue, and blaze half in su sequels could play like...i was mad fucking autistic i admit
