Inklings have the attention span of a goldfish, they fucking abandoned the area that was the hub of social life 2 years ago and put all the stores from that out of business. If Marie was smart she built up a nest egg from when she was popular because she knew it wouldn't last.

What is wrong with this? I find this really cool. It's a unique arc. We have one of the sisters guiding us along with a new group that's bringing a different sound. Would you rather have Callie Marie 2.0 or something new?

Callie and marie are the squid sisters, popular artists in the splatoon world.
On the final Splatfest in Splatoon 1, it was a popularity challenge with team Marie and Team Callie. Team Marie won.

Nintendo has a whole written chapter set describing the incidents that take place in-between now and then. Basically, theyre were no hard feelings between the two, but due to work and what not, they grew apart. Marie had gotten her first single thanks to her popularity and the splatfest. Didn't read all of it, but now, Callie is the main antagonist of Splat2, and Marie asks you to help her, presumably get her sister back.

We're assuming that Callie was kidnapped and brainwashed, but all we know for sure is that she was supposed to meet Marie to visit their parents but never came, so Marie rushed back and found Octavio (the villian of the first game) missing and Callie nowhere to be found. Then we got this shot on the single player poster of (probably) Callie wearing octoling shades. There's also some things in this shot that make me suspisious of the new idols, but that didn't come till later.
