I almost want to rebuy multiple copies of Sonic Mania just to help it succeed more over Forces. Call it autism (I have OCD but who knows if I have this..........maybe) but fuck Forces. I wanna send Sega of Japan a message of "Fuck you" specifically to their continued half hearted efforts AGAIN on a new game.

All that development time on current generation hardware, and it -should- have been blowing my mind with gameplay. If I am doing boost gameplay on a PS4 I should have my skin peeled back from the "holy F U C K" factor just like when we saw Unleashed for the first time. Seeing that speed was a fucking trip.

But Forces looks like a downgrade from Generation; from previous hardware vastly inferior.

I just can't stand for that.

I'm never going to see Sega of Japan/Sonic Team of Japan actually give as much of a fuck as they did with that...but it was nice to hope.

I just see Mania and go "Holy FUCK" despite it retreading old stages because it surprises me at every turn. I see Forces and go "God damn it" because it's retreading older stages (again) with none of the flair or polish...as well as trying way too hard to be hip or cool. The theme "Fist Bump" doesn't help matters either.

I'm a Classicfag, but there are still 'modern' games I think stand above the rest of the other 'modern' games. That doesn't mean that they're not all individually flawed as fuck in their own ways, but still.

The first real jump into 3D. Actually kept the classic physics, and as a result, the game still feels pretty nice to move around in.

>SA2
The game still feels pretty nice to move around in. Multiplayer and Chao Garden are indisputably at their Sonic-franchise apex.

>Unleashed
Production values at their maximum. Tons of little touches.

>Colors
Played it safe as possible. Essentially nothing but basic as fuck blocky 2D platforming as just Sonic. Story doesn't mean dick.

>Generations
Went all out on fanservice, to a revolutionary degree for the franchise at the time. Attempted to bring together the two most refined and beloved gameplay styles. Truly ushered in the Classic Renaissance.

Forces seems to be about there as well. The only thing that makes me utterly apathetic at best toward Forces is that I'm no longer excited about games of this caliber. Mania's raised the bar so high.

I'm fine with 3D games, but they need to stop royally fucking some random significant chunk of the project up. I really hope that rather than some grand mutiny or firing, as a lot of anons are memeing, Iizuka and co. really learn that they need to nail the underlying fundamentals first, and then they can go wild with whatever fantastically cheesy autism they want.

Homing attacks, light dashes, melee combat, grind rails, vehicles, treasure hunting, shooting, fishing, team formations, psychokinesis, boosting, wisps, and wispons can all be organically grown from a game that actually has some refined core mechanics.

The Sonic Advance series and a variety of ROM hacks have demonstrated a lot of that to be possible already.

Unleashed is by far my favorite 3D Sonic game so I totally understand. Let us just be content with Mania. Can you imagine if Mania didn't exist, and we were all stuck with Forces only this year? I don't think the fan base could survive the Lost World-Boom-Forces buttfuck trio. It hurts way more than the Shadow-06 tagteam of 2005-2006 because at least there was hope on the way and the Rush games were good.

Sonic 1 was made in Japan. After this the team moved to the US. Sonic 2 was made in the US but still by a primarily Japanese staff. The amount of non-Japanese involved amounted to less than a quarter of the total game staff and almost all just low level grunt work with the people in charge being Japanese. They then kicked all the non-Japanese people out and the dev team for S3&K was entirely Japanese despite also being made in the US. After finishing Sonic & Knuckles the team returned to Japan.
