Me. I gave up on most online fighting. I do singleplayer and training for flashy combos, then play with my friends who are better than me but at least go easy. I play them every now and then, I just realized early on I don't want to dedicated most of my gaming to practicing for a single game, while still getting heavily wrecked. It's not worth it.
>>
>>383431225
Neither of us play fighting games at all. This is fucking bullshit and proves that practice doesn't mean shit.

>thread about people admitting they are shit at fighting games
>"why are you being such a casual kid?"

I have played fighting games my whole life anon but not at arcades and sometimes friends were not always about. Im saying i enjoy playing single player modes of old non-online games still. Today i played Tekken 4, Darkstalkers 3 and Street fighter Alpha. The funny thing is, nothing seems to trigger autists more than aidmitting you enjoy playing single player modes sometimes, as if mentioning it will lower their rank by just hearing it. I feel kind of sad for guys who used to buy games before online multiplayer was a thing but only dusted off their discs when friends came round.

You might not think im being "competitive" anon, but i like it this way, and no amount of e-peen disgracing will stop me ever.

My win percentage for SF4 may very well have been in the single digits. I would attribute it to two things. First, my timing and intuition of when I should be attacking is terrible. I could never get the hang of reacting to the opponent rather than just puting out attacks and hoping for the best. Second, years after I gave up, I realized the TV I was using had absolutely terrible input lag to the point where rhythm games were unplayable. I'm sure this second reason was actually my entire problem and I would be amazing if I tried again, but I would rather just keep that belief and not try.

>>

Which ones? Discord has revitalized a lot of dying fighting games.
>>
>>383429845

Not me, I have an average of a 70% win ratio on every fighting game I play.
Platinum in SFV, A rank in SFIV.
>>
>>383437496
>No one is innately good at fighting games. No one has ever just picked up any fighting game and immediately was competitive.

no but some people have way more natural talent than others and will outshine others given the same amount of time, or sometimes even less

louffy, infil and others started in 09 and became world dominating players while oldfags on srk have been playing since the 90s and can't even win locals

mike watson was one of the preeminent players back in the sf2 days when he was like 15

natural talent is real in any game, especially high skill ceiling ones like fighting or RTS

Lol the entire strategy is "attack constantly to prevent enemy from doing anything".

Literally just hammer quick attacks until they're stunned, then use heavier attacks and grapples. It's really not that hard.

Literally every fight, just immediately use a flurry of quick attacks and then use heavies when you see an opening. Blocking, dodging, all that is fucking loser bullshit and will get you killed.

DOMINATE FROM THE START EVERY ROUND. ONLY ACCEPTABLE STRATEGY.

Why am I seeing more and more of these posts?
Are you pansies so afraid of competition that you don't see how stupid your posts are?

Fighting games are made to be played competitively. They're made around multiplayer, offline and online. Saying not to play fighting games "competitively" is essentially saying to play them offline against the computer or with your friends who don't actually know how to play the game so you don't have to come up against someone who actually plays the game for the mechanics.

Fuck, so stupid.
>>
What was the game that made you want to git gud /v/?
>>
>>383442261
But you're be forced to view the game purely as an investment in time, as work to be done. Other games have actual learning curves and not greased up overhanging cliffs over spike pits. Love for a game or genre isn't unconditional, you have to actually be seduced first.

I am good at a lot of different games but fighting games are something I have never been able to play with any level of skill after playing all sorts of different ones for 20 years. Ok, and for ST I could see simple patience actually working. It's simple enough at its core that you can at least see how you might handle a situation differently, well outside of actually inescapable loops. For games since then that have piled on tons of crap maybe not.

I guess I am. I was playing Guilty Gear with a friend and was completely destroying him as Millia round after round. Then he asked if he could look up the moves list. I obliged but had no interest to look up my own moves because I prefer to play by feel. Afterwards I lost every single match.

Rinse and repeat for several instances of playing guilty gear and blazblue with mentioned friend. I'm very bad at remembering and executing special moves and using burst meters and all that jazz.

I think some people are just naturally good at certain game types.

I am exactly like you but with first person shooters. They are all so fast and I am terrible at aiming with both controller and mouse/kb.

I get salty and quit.

You serious nigga

like
Have you ever tried to play a strategic game of chess who has no idea what they're doing?
Fighting games have a similar problem in that if you can't read what the fuck someones thinking, you're libel to get your shit stacked in dumb ways because you can't anticipate a stupid choice that ends up working.

I just have low reflexes. Even when I learned how to read and react to opponents in fighting games, I was never able to pull anything off because most players are much faster than me on average. This is something that has only started to get worse with age, so I've written off fighting games as something I'll ever be able to do with any amount of practice. But there are still plenty of genres that I can handle just fine, so that's okay with me.

i knowyouuninstalled, but try playing again. you don't know how lucky you are that you have someone to play fightan with.

my advice for you situation. throw fireballs half screen. you'll also have to learn how to look out for jump ins, this you cant really effectively do in training mode, also know when to use srk and a normal.

advice for being a good player
look up guides. considering youre on 4chan, id say youre not a casualfag, and actually know how to use google

You would have to assume they're going for reversals every single time, and whoever is safejumping every time. And safejumping in ST is very, very hard to pull off consistently. Every character can punish a whiffed reversal with a throw at that distance. Not just honda and hawk.

Who else loves watching fighting game streams despite not playing them?
I haven't played a single tekken game in years but watching aris play the game is great since I have a juvenile sense of humour.

I dislike it too but it's fundamental design is not the main issue

Memorizing combos doesn't make you good. Fighting games are about reading your opponent and outmaneuvering them, not memorizing autistic button strings

This is a common misconception. A lot of people think combo = good

But combos don't mean shit if you don't make any opportunities for those combos. You need to practice the actual basics of the game, and only once you have that down, you can combo. Think about the fact that a somewhat decent player can beat a button masher without even using special moves.

I'm mediocre at every fighting game that isn't Killer Instinct. The fact that only Guilty Gear picked up the fact that you should probably teach people how to play your game properly is proof that fighting game devs are in a golden gilded bubble.
>>
>>383443007
Funny enough, Rising Thunder. I loved Mahvel but I never bothered getting REALLY gud, just basic combos with my 3 mains.

But then I played Rising Thunder and since I played with a keyboard I realized how much easier it was for me to play with a keyboard. Also how fun it is to actually be gud. I could make some crazy combos in that game because they took way less time to make.

Then I got SFIV and after that SFV, currently trying to git gud.
>>
>>383446578
And this is after SF4 already took a dump on walk speeds and fireballs. (Parry made fireballs useless in 3S but the fireballs themselves weren't as bad.) SF5 is shit upon shit.

>>383438895
kof and gg have people playing them, you just have to put some effort into having fun, you knoww like when you had to go to the arcade or had to go to your friends house, instead, now you have to a chat room.

if your too lazy or stupid, and don't want to put in the effort, then wait in matchmaking
>>
>>383446679
I get that but living in australia there's practically no scene here and every FG is dead online.

Literally shut the fuck up if you know nothing, you don't need to sound cool to abunch of strangers. Fireballs in SFIV were amazing, check any Ryu player during vanilla or pretty much any Sagat even in ultra.
>>
As best I can figure, learning a fighting game requires rote memorization of every single character's every single move so you can properly gauge range of attacks and what moves are reasonable counters for other moves. That's way too much for me to deal with.
>>
>no hypercombos
Literally unplayable
>>
>>383447117
Same for me in Argentina. Scenes are dead, online communities are small. I'd love to git gud at GG but it's worth nothing if the only opponents you can find have 1k hours and beat you in seconds. I don't care what anyone says i'm not spending 100 hours getting bodied by the same 5 people before I can actually enjoy the game.

It's only SFV and Tekken 7 here. And I hate tekken.
>>

You could try keyboard. I used to think this same way but now I'm playing with keyboard and I'm actually gud.

And I feel like it's obligatory to mention that A LOT of SFV pro players use PS4/Xbox pad.

Wether it be Mahvel, SF, or Tekken, wether he's low, mid, or top tier, doesn't matter what game he's in, I'll always follow my boy, the Raging Demon.

I don't know what it is about him that I just enjoy so much. Maybe it's just something to do with the glass cannon play style. Him. Guile and Ibuki are the only characters that weren't completely fucked in SFV and if it wasn't for him I would've dropped the game long ago.

Sad to say I don't know. I tried with PS4 pad too but I just find it too uncomfortable. One thing though, don't use claw, there's literally like 2 pro players that use it for pad.

I recommend just binding Heavy Kick and Heavy Punch to R1 and R2 so you can hold the controller normaly. But if I had to be honest, I don't know how pros do it.

I've always been terrible at them and I hate playing fighting games. I have PTSD of when I was playing Tekken 3 at my cousin's house at the tender age of 12 and he (17 at the time) would continuously destroy me in the most embarrassing ways while laughing and screaming 'IN YOUR FACE FAG.'
