the people who say the story was lacking and unfinished are the casuals who couldn't comprehend that kojima was changing his storytelling style in MGS5. its subtle now and cerebral. you actualy have to sit down and explore the game to find it. guard dialogues, tapes, subtle body language and facial expression, its incredible when you actually know how to critically analyze a story, but if you're the average bandwagoner who was expecting everything to be spelled out ot you in hour long cutscenes, sorry, its your loss. Koji learned from the negative reception MGS4 cutscenes had and MGS5 fixes the issue perfectly. try playing it again and truly TRULY explore, listen to every guard dialogue, listen to every tape , watch for the animations and facial expressions of every character, and the masterpiece will be revealed.

This game is a big WHY for me. Excellent core gameplay mechanics ruined by countless stupid decisions.

Repetitive as fuck missions with some plot here and there, recycled set pieces, unnecessary padding, no respect for players time.

Annoying base building required for getting basic fucking weapons.
Game punishes you with stupid unwashable look that ruins immersion for playing lethal, was it not enough the heroism drop and the harder base building? Why give me hundreds of weapons to develop if I cant fucking use them?

There's your problem, MGSV was never supposed to be a free roam game like TW3 or whatever, the open world is there to serve as a sandbox for the missions themselves. I'm not surprised so many anons end up hating the game playing it like that, since as a free roaming open world it really is a failure, especially with how monotonous the later side-ops are. I'm convinced the only way you could not get any enjoyment out of TPP is by playing it wrong, unless you're in it for the story first and foremost.

I hated it with a passion, i just deleted my save to start it all again and i'm having some fun again cause i can't use the tranq gun all the time. I realize i could self-impose the rule of no tranq gun but the progression is fun and MB isn't dead while the story is ongoing which is good too. Its still easy as hell though, decoys and the box is more than enough to handle any situation albeit being more dull and time-consuming if you do it all the time. The really smooth gameplay actually makes the game piss easy.
Its really a mixed bag no matter how you slice it,yes you gets lots of gameplay hours to 100% it but its mostly emblem/animal/extra mission task autism and it doesn't help that its mostly listening to long convos that bug out most of the time.

For example, couldnt you just have something like Nier with kind of pointless boring open world shit for autism, then have levels be Camp Omega levels of detail in their own set piece thats instanced?

Why not just design each mission around shit like Omega instead of trying to piece together an empty open world. Its like they tried to replicate how fun Ground Zeroes was, but then ended up shitting the bed

I felt the same way. Games started becoming fun again. Not knowing every little detail of everything before even playing them was great. But then like a retarded phoenix out of the ashes, I returned for E3. As for talking to friends in real life. Is really the worst of the MGS, is laking of all the charming thing of the series and fuck up the lore even more. Too bad, the gameplay is simply perfect, actually the mission design is bad, always the same fetch quest and mission.

Who know, the game is incomplete because of the shit happen with Konami and Kojima exploding the budget for the game. Maybe the original vision of the product could have better but i doubt the some of the major prombles of the game could have been resolve.

And there's certainly a lack of intellectual discourse, but I think that comes with the territory. Sites like Waypoint and Kotaku are too pretentious and aren't actually as intellectual as they'd hope to be. but typically just for headlines. And porn., but it's not a very good medium for following a conversation (that isn't just between 2 people). With 4chan, all posts are just sequential. No likes, retweets, upvotes,etc. so all posts are more or less equal, with image posts, greentext, tripfags, and replies being more noticable. It just gels better with the way I've been lurking on the internet since I was a teenager, is all.

I've been playing MGSV lately. It's the best Metal Gear Solid.

Actually in the middle of playing it, since it was in my backlog. There are some truly visceral moments in the first 20 minutes, and then the game is a goddamn mess. The technology plays absolute havoc with the established universe, and the acting and dialogue is cringeworthy.

Time consumed by helicopter navigation is criminal and Kojima should be drawn and quartered for that alone.
