Are you actually asking or just being clever? I can't remember where the parts are anymore. I feel like playing but I hear things are kind of annoying in the sub now.

I hear the Mountains and Dunes are rife with all the fragments you need. If you're actually serious, Grand Reef/Blood Kelp hanging wrecks are almost always Moonpool fragment able.
>>
>>383414292
I just wanted another Subnautica thread, these are comfy.
>>
>>383414568
So, about 200m down, is putting down floodlights the best way to ward off scary sea creatures?
>>
>>383413975
>>383414385
I found all the moonpool fragments at the bottom of a large hole where the underwater Degasi Seabase is. There were glowing mushrooms everywhere.
>>
>>383414762
Lights currently do nothing but be aesthetic. Except Spotlights, they just drain your generators dry.
>>
>>383414568
If we're talking about easy places to find fragments, I know I've always had trouble finding pieces for the Mobile Vehicle Bay... Until I discovered one weird trick to get that prerequisite for all the end-game vehicles.

In the red kelp fields nearby the Aurora wreckage, there is a large piece of debris that can be cut open. Do so, swim into it, and there will be 6 fragments for the MVB.

Oh my god, is this what nostalgia feels like? I remember a time in Subnautica when you could only find silver and gold in the red kelp fields, and you'd find the Modification stations there as well.
>>
>>383414762
Yes. Actually they stay away from you when you aren't in any vehicle due to a current bug in the game.
>>
>>383414762
Voices of the Deep or whatever seemed to break how creatures react to light. Sandsharks etc. are still affected but spookier shit don't give a fuck.
>>
>Been all the way to the Blood Kelp Zone
>Still haven't found any modification station shit
>Still haven't found any Swim Charge fins
>Stuck with the default knife and fins
what the hell is going on, aren't one of the pods meant to have the Swim Charge fins?
>>
>>383414928
>>383414982
Wait really. Guess I was wrong. >>383414879 Maybe I should build more bases in areas without Reapers or Warpers so I actually notice these things.

>>383414909
I always have good luck with MVB fragments on the actual seafloor compared to near wrecks. I rarely notice any close by but find plenty in the sand near the Grassy Plateaus/Safe Shallows edges. Assuming yours stays the same every new game rather than rotate contents it's more reliable obviously though.
>>
>>383414928
A Reaper chased my ass all the way to the surface when I wasn't using anything except the Sea Glide, are you sure or does the Sea Glide count as a vehicle?

Reapers attack the Cyclops, they're not going to be warded off by a little Seaglide.

>>
What do you even do in this game? Is it like a walking simulator, but under water?
>>
>>383416614
There's concept art of something called Void Whales but they're not in the game. Don't know if it's because Reefbacks replaced them or they didn't want two of the same creature with the exact same purpose of floating around harmless but either way, Reefbacks fall into the category of "whale" for this game. Perhaps in the expansion they'll use them.

You'll need lots of Reinforcements to keep your shit from collapsing because a single glass corridor gives you -4.7 integrity but it's doable. Not very convenient and out of the way as all get out but you can manage.
>>
>>383417460

Lots of thermal energy.

Also ruins.
>>
>>383417229
Its a survival game with a plot. Currently its
>initial survival and exploration
>fix Aurora engine, discover Reapers
>learn about bacterial infection and previously crashed ship
>rescue ship arrives
>rescue ship gets blown out of the fucking sky
>learn why that happened
>go deeper

There's likely only a few more builds before the game is fully sorted out, we just have to get cured then build a rocket off the planet.

The game really needs an optimization patch though, after a few hours you're gonna be playing a slideshow no matter how beefy your computer is. There's workarounds to help alleviate it but they've only barely made a difference in my experience.

Night vision goggles when?
I'd love a deep sea creature that is attracted to like so you couldn't have any windows in your base unless you wanted it to be attacked constantly
>>
Tell me /v/ and be honest.
How long did it take you until you were brave enough exploring st night?
Bonus points if without flashlight.
>>
>>383417229
you can play the game as a survival game underwater and build your stuff form scratch while battling sea creatures and the elements or you can play it like giant unlimited sandbox if you just wanna build some shit. its fun game thats in desperate need of numerous technical patches though.
>>
>>383413975
I got mine at office max for cheap. It's great, I can print over wifi now. Doubt it would work underwater like that though, you should keep it dry.
>>
>>383418742
Some creatures like Crabsquids and Jellyray/Ghostrays are already attracted to light. There's no creature danger to bases yet though other than Crabsquid knocking out the power.
>>
>>383418778
When going into places like Blood Kelp it doesn't matter one bit if it's night or day.
>>
How far down are Solar Panels viable? I only have a base 10m down near my pod and I need to move down if I want to progress because all the wrecks are that far down.
>>
>>383419095
I never used them much beyond the starting Safe Shallows storage closet but I think it's about 150/200m? Never put much time in testing it, my bases are always too far down.

>Is it like a walking simulator, but under water?
It started off as a literal Minecraft but under sea. However, it is gradually departing from it's minecraft origin: nowdays it's more like softcore Long Dark with a lot more emphasis on exploration.

It has a set, hand-made but fairly large world, it has plenty of various enemies that you need to find a way to get around, it has survival mode with survival mechanics forcing you to hunt and scavenge at first, build a base that can provide you with sustainable sources of food later. It has crafting and upgrading your gear that mostly serves as a gating mechanic for how far you can go in your exploration, it has basic base-building (nothing complex, but it is functional), it has vehicles.

It does have a story of sorts, though it's not entirely complete yet.

Most of the actual core gameplay loop is combination of exploration - you scour the land looking for broken pieces of technology you could scan and unlock new blueprints, combined with kind-of-combat (you have very little lethal weapons, but you do get tools like gravity gun, stasis-rifle and later on non-lethal stunning torpedoes for your smaller sub). In survival mode, you also have to think about resource management.

So you explore, try not to get eaten, risk suffocation, expand your base, collect upgrades for your gear and ships allowing you to explore even further, occasionally coming across story fragments and secret locations.
That is more or less it.
It has enough content to keep you pretty occupied for about 20+ hours. It does have very limited replay value though, because everything is hand-crafted, there is no random generation in this game.

So is prawn the only way to explore really deep places? Even with both upgraded jetpack and grappling arm it's so clunky to use, but I stumbled on a path leading deep in the Blood Kelp and even with third level depth upgrade my seamoth can't get that far down, while the heat would just kill me with my glider.

It's been ages since I last time looked into it, but I think you get: 0-10 meters 100% power, 10-30 75%, 30-50 50%, and around 100 meters they stop making enough power to be relevant.

Generally, you don't want to be relying on them bellow 50 meters, I think. But you can always build a set of relays and beam the energy down with those.
>>
>>383419794
Well I hear you can also take the cyclops all the way down but 've never done it because it's so fucking big.
>>
>>383419786
It was supposed to be one of the central mechanics years ago. But I've heard they scapped it for 1.00 release, though they are considering it as part of the post-release updates.

I would not hold up much hope...
>>

>>
>>383419994
Crab legs but moves via somewhat jetlike mechanics as it bobs up and down. Also clearly a squid mantle. Not quite the stereotypical squid but it's still mostly squidlike. I'd like a more conventional squidshaped creature too though.

>>383419972
Both Blood Kelp Zones have more than enough space to accommodate the Cyclops. Crabsquid one is wider but also full of Crabsquid. Other one is narrowed but still pretty easy. Deep Grand Reef is hard as shit to squeeze through though, even more so with two Crabsquid per inch.

>>383420080
Max upgraded depth is 1500m.
>>
Is anyone else really disappointed that all the truly deep biomes are caves? The deepest part of the regular ocean is only like 600m, after which it's all caves and tunnels.
And everything from Lost River onwards feels extremely lacking. The ambient illumination and crystal-clear water makes it feel like you're just floating through space, not diving 1km below the surface.
>>
So is there some sort of endgame condition? I'm kind of getting tired of running over the same places trying to find something from the ancient aliens only for it to be a bunch of green cubes or a warpgate I'll never use.

Recently murdered the one behind the Aurora because it was being a cunt when I wanted to scan propulsion gun parts.

What's a good name for the Seamoth,
Cyclops is Polyphemus and the PRAWN is Christopher

Speaking of the getting off part. I assume it would also require to turn off the ancient alien defense system, and that requires you to get cured of the ancient alien super-aids. That makes me wonder if it would be possible to speedrun through the search for cure and turn the cannon off before the rescue ship comes.

You can kite them anywhere really, and when you kill them they respawn where they died and hang around there forever.

That said enemies in this game are really not intimidating, I've played for hours and only ever died of drowning due to getting lost in some caves.

>Speaking of the getting off part. I assume it would also require to turn off the ancient alien defense system,
Correct

>and that requires you to get cured of the ancient alien super-aids.
correct. All the methods to do this are in the game actually, but, the cure itself is just barely not implemented.
>That makes me wonder if it would be possible to speedrun through the search for cure and turn the cannon off before the rescue ship comes.
I was able to get to the containment facility, get the hatching enzyme, and the cure before the rescue ship arrived on my save. They have stated however that you can't get rescued by the ship one way or another though.

Experimental, and stable when the next update hits. They'll be different sizes for the reason you mentioned, a newborn at the Cove Tree, juveniles at the Lost River skeleton/tree section and young adults at the Grand Reef and somewhere else I can now not remember. >>383430175

That'd be fucking great.

Where are the upgrades for Cyclops depth, I think I'm heading to the Lost River next and walking most of the distance in the PRAWN suit is a pain in the arse
>>
>>383430346
They probably aren't going to implement it because it'd be impossible to balance properly. If they tried adding it you'd probably just make the Cyclops even more undesirable.
>>
>>383431192
>That'd be fucking great.
That's actually why they cut it. It would make both the Moth and Cyclops completely useless and the Cyclops alone took a lot of effort to get in the game.
>>383431278
Exactly. They've even said so, and do have a point.

>Where are the upgrades for Cyclops depth
I believe one can be found in the Aurora but don't quote me on that, it's been a while since I've made a new game. Other than that you've gotta find them like any other blueprint.
>>
>>383431192

>>
>>383431509
>I believe one can be found in the Aurora
Fuck, thought I'd scanned that place top to bottom but I guess not

> It would make both the Moth and Cyclops completely useless
That depends, the Cyclops works great as a mobile base but very little else, if you go fucking anywhere without Silent Running you just get fucked and its just tedious exploring in the thing but the Seamoth can't get as deep and can't carry the PRAWN suit so something in the middle would be better for just getting around in unless they re-jig the boneshark aggro range

>>
>>383431914
>re-jig the boneshark aggro range
Bonesharks have been changed in experimental and will come next update to stable. Only thing that poses a threat to it now is actual large fauna, River Prowlers and above.
The issue with making a medium sub is the fact it would 95% of the time be the superior option to pick. Using anything else would rarely be preferable and that why it was cut, so you'd have to make the tactical choice of speed and agility or Cyclops size and lessened ability to squeak through things.

>>383432214
I did say I wasn't sure. Guess I had reason to be.
>>
>>383432319

Still haven't found the second piece of the prawn drill arm myself, shits frustrating.

Whats the word on there being a map in the game? Maybe expand on the scanner room to have a 3d map of everything you've explored rather than just the immediate area? Having half a dozen beacons scattered around just clutters up my UI.

Fixing their spawns is on the books so once they have a long range spawn like other large predators, that should fix it. You can hear Sea Dragons from miles away. I've never built deep. I'm waiting for 1.0 at least and the game to be beatable before actually playing seriously.

In your cyclops you can stick the smaller containers to the walls in the lower sections, fill as many of them with trit and materials as you can then you can build a base wherever the hell you want. There's room for like 12 containers in the front and more in the back and you can use the default containers in there to hold computer chips and shit to build your replicator and chargers and thermal reactor shit.

Double Reaper-anon reporting back in, made it out by the skin of my teeth. Lifepod 4, by the way, is the one floating on the surface above a huge patch of open space. Having to swim straight up through open water racing against a pair of reapers was pants-shittingly terrifying. Had to hole up in the lifepod itself for a bit to get bearings on them, watch one swim off and the other keep diving into the ground and coming back out like he was trying to fake me out about leaving.

Two things I learned during the experience:
1- reapers don't seem to fight each other
2- sandshark vs reaper: bet on the reaper

Have you done a full restart or did you just load the old save? It could be a bug where the save file doesn't save spawn locations, so there's no old spawn locations to load when you load a new game; it might just go off whatever value the game currently has set, which would be the place you killed it at before reloading. Speculation, but I've run into that problem with other games.

Honestly I'd have no issue with that, except they put aggressive creatures in the game, and last I checked your defensive options kinda sucked. Hopefully that's changed by now but if you're going to make it possible to die because you were attacked, and you refuse to give people ways to fight back, then you need to give them ways to escape instead.
>>
>>383450548
The aggressive creatures are never really a big deal though. You can just swim right past them unmolested in most cases.

That's a data bpx that gives you blueprints, not the actual fins. Might be a bug because you should be able to just click on the box to open it.

You should be able to find the blueprint in another data box elsewhere though. There's more data boxes in the map then there are blueprints, so you don't need to find every single data box to have everything.

Also the swim charge fins are pretty shit, they only charge the item in your hand, and only while moving.

They're a different species of boomerang that adapted to hot temps.

They do need to just make some new fish for the lava zones though, the lava eyeye & boomerang look nice, but they're kind of lazy.

I really don't agree with there not being weapon
>but it gives you immersion because it makes a human, a predator, into a prey, muh food chain and shit

This is all fine and dandy, but subnautica is the only game that doesn't have some sort of progression and makes you prey the whole game.

Feeling like your shit could get fucked up at any moment is a fun gameplay experience, but not allowing you to evolve past that stage isn't.

A Subnautica movie could be good if done right.
It already has a lot of similarities to movies like The Abyss or All Is Lost.

Im just saying the premise of a survivor stranded on an alien ocean planet, with the underlying alien mystery is not a bad setting for a movie.
You would probably have to rework it so the protag unites with a few other survivors after a while though.

It's been like that for fucking ages. I had a save at one point where I had multiple large lockers full of gold, and it didn't help that there weren't many uses for gold either. I remember seeing on their Trello that they were planning on changing that but I guess they haven't done so yet.

This kind of stuff has always amused me in survival video games. You're the last man on earth and all these rare/valuable things are no longer valuable so they stop being rare because their use is so limited.

Shitty geometry if you're using seamoth, you'll be crashing into nothing a lot. Also the entrance is at the broken hull, so don't get far from the Aurora's body because there's a Reaper lurking in that area. Also inside there are a lot of fires and while there are extinguishers inside, their usage is very unprecise, so I'd have a couple extinguishers just in case.
>>
>>383469264
How long would you yell at a dog that just stares at you mockingly?
>>
>>383469259
Reapers' design is just too ridiculous to be threatening. Pretty much only things that actually spook me are the crabs and sea treaders, and treaders aren't even a threat, they just look creepy.
>>
>>383469413
i wouldn't - i would punch it in the guts until it screams. Obviously you're even more stupid than a dog to actually understand, when somebody asks you repeatedly to fuck off, it's a good time for stepping back, so no grudges against special ones.

Shallows. Kelp forest doesn't really have resources, and your base is the place you'll be returning to build all the stuff. Shallows base is the most sensible, building in other places is just for fun. Also you can build all the essential stuff on your cyclops and use it as mobile base.
