When practicing, you're not likely to get the perfect combinations of colors to build the part of the chain that you need to, so as a beginner one might struggle with "useless" pieces.

Rather than the "read this part and then go practice it until you git gud at it before continuing" attitude, it should explore more necessary concepts like building two parts of a chain simultaneously or explaining the sort of mindset to take in order to see far enough ahead to know how to connect a separate chain into your main chain. When I was learning with the tutorial, I wound up developing the bad habit of using column 6 as my garbage dump, throwing anything that I didn't agree with into that column while I wait for the next piece(s) I need, and it's something I still wind up doing on occasion.

I've tried watching S2 and Shiro for Puyo, but I've only learned GTR from them, halfassedly at that. Meanwhile watching Tetris, I've learned T-spin set ups, DT cannon,4wides and downstacking combos pretty decently.

But S2 does way more than GTR and Shiro usually does stairs and sandwiches against tetris players. GTR is the best anyway and stairs are really easy to learn. But yeah, you've got to practice a lot to be good. It took me like a month to be able to costantly do 6+ chains and it still isn't that easy, but you have to keep playing and trying if you want to succeed. Also, I never play tetris but whenever I do I manage to get a lot of t-spin doubles, combos and sometimes perfect clears, but that's really just because tetris is very easy compared to puyo. Don't give up anon I'm sure you can do it

Never, and I mean never, gotten strairs to work. I find them hard as fuck to set up an pull off.

The reason I find GTR easier to set up is because I don't have to worry that much for excess Puyos. Stairs are very precise to build and if I don't get the ideal RNG, I always mess them up.

The fact that Puyo has excess pieces and not a clear RNG pattern like tetris, ruins it for me. Tetris has no excess pieces, even S and Z, which are the worst pieces, can be used for T-spins and other stuff.
But I suppose the same can be said for Puyo too, so it doesn't count. I'm just mad because I can't play this godforsaken game.
