I'm going to take this moment to point out one of the many detestable things about weebs. This is one of more annoying traits on the seemingly infinite list of annoying traits of the weeb. Something can exist for a long time, totally unchanged and weebs will hate everything about it. But the MOMENT an anime exists about that same thing, they suddenly fall in love with that thing that they hated, but only on the level where they can copy the anime to the T. It doesn't even have to be animated. Someone can draw a series of anime girl doing stupid things and call it [thing] chan and weebs think it's a person that they can marry.

Another example of this would be motorsports. Weebs hate cars and everything about them, but the second Initial D comes around, they suddenly love motorsports, but only if they can use that shitbox of a car and drift around listening to EDM (which they will cancerously refer to as "eurobeat" like in the anime). Motorsports existed forever. Nothing changed about it. They only reason they now suddenly love it is because they can relate it to one single anime.
>>
>>383394612
OP here
Agreed
>>
>>383394612
Initial D existed before the weeb phenomena you fucking retard. It introduced anime to an entire culture of people with no experience with it. Fuck off you retarded child born in the 90's.
>>
>>383394612
In pretty fucking sure Eurobeat is older than EDM.
Besides, weeb don't care about motorsports. They only care about making an epic drifto meme webm.
>>
>>383394813
>It introduced anime to an entire culture of people with no experience with it.
This would be the crux of the issue, you lobotomized chimp. The weebs still don't give a damn about anything that's not in the anime though. Their infatuation never bothers to seek an interest in anything included in the anime. What kind raw sewage people need anime to tell them what to like?

Nah, EDM existed in Germany since the 80's.
>>
I'm watching the first episode. Dracula did nothing wrong. Religious idiots ruined everything. Dracula was right about humanity.
>>
>>383394612
Wait so do weebs love Castlevania now?
>>
>>383393243
specifics about adherence to the tone and narrative of the source material are inconsequential in the face of the show just being really, really fucking boring.
>>
>>383394612

What does this copypasta have to do with castlevania

The show was legitimately bad
>>
>>383393243
It was pretty damn good as far as adaptations go, genuinely impressed, no memes.
>>
>>383397502
I wouldn't strongly recommend it that's for sure
but it wasn't nearly as bad as you think it is I just wish there was more fighting and less talking
>>
Trevor should have been younger since he's merely 19 in Castlevania III but they turned him in Grizzled McGruff because of the autistic obsession with thirty something male leads in the west.

Sypha should have kept passing herself off as a man until the end

Alucard basically looks like his SoTN persona even though his entire appearance was completely different in the 1400s

Ellis must be a fedora because most of the show goes on and on about MUH EVIL AND INTOLERANT CHURCH when the Church in the series does very little aside from dispatching agents to fight demons.
>>
>>383393243

I can't think of a better Vidya adaptation, period.
>>
>>383397838
> more fighting/ less talking

Dracula did nothing wrong.

Anime was always full of dialogue you underaged faggot. The cornerstone of fucking nip animation is lots of talking with small bursts of action. You retards have probably done nothing but consume toonami and adult swim for fucking years and thought all anime was like that. I've been watching anime since 92 and I can assure it's not much different now then it was then aside from more emphasis on slice of life

>>
>>383398581
wow does your family know that you are illiterate?
>>
>>383398479
now youre just being contrarian for no good reason

last anime i watched was The Irregular at Magic High School
holy shit they would not shut the fuck up which is too bad because most of the premise is interesting enough to me
before that i finally got around to finishing birdy decode 2 - that had a good balance between dialogue and silent, meaningful actions but that came out almost 10 years ago!

im sorry you cant see modern anime for what it is but that's just the way it is nowadays
market forces - wimin have money so why not blend genres? specifically im seeing an explosion of romantic sci fi animes or just romantic (x), which is ok in general but i dont watch anime for fucking lame ass fuck empty and meaningless dialogue - it's the actions of the characters that give the words meaning
>>
>>383399175
im not illiterate dumbass
seems you are though
>>
>>383398581
My point is that it's not a dub, gaylord.
>>
>>383397848
He could be 19.
>>
>>383398303

Born in '88.

But holy fuck, yeah, I forgot that existed entirely. I guess it's a bit different to me though since the games basically played like a 90s cartoon so the adaptation was easy.

Adapting something like Castlevania seems a lot more challenging and they were pretty fucking successful at it. No moving goalposts, you're not wrong, I'm just saying it was a much easier thing to do than what they accomplished with CV.
>>
>>383397848
I think Ellis is an atheist, but when Dracula is summoning an army of demons from hell you do need to explain why exactly God isn't stopping him.

And of course they're going to base the character design for Alucard on his later appearances, just like they did with Trevor.
>>
>>383399312
Anything animated is dubbed regardless of the original language because the characters on screen cannot talk must be dubbed over.

Don't tell me you think a dub means it's changed language do you?
>>
>>383399264
sure about that, friend?
>>
>>383399312
oh is it?
usually when someone uses the green texts they are deriding the subject they are talking about
maybe he just really likes the jap voices?
like for instances i compared the voices of the jap dub of ajin - demi human to the english dub and the jap dub miles better - the english version didnt capture the characters' "isms" well at all and seemed very off - none of them fit the characters at all
>>
The visuals and fight scenes were the only good parts, and the animation wasn't even that great.

Considering the entire season was literally less than two hours, I had hoped they would at least invest enough money in the fight scenes to make them more than 10 frames per second. But they didn't.
>>
>>383399397
Trevor's led a hard lifestyle
>>
>>383397848

Trevor was full Barbarian mode in CV3. What's the issue with Alucard also having his more updated look?

As for the religion thing, here's some pasta I made for another thread:

>It's not anti-religion, it's simply reflecting the very real truth that people in religious authority often abuse that power for their own means and/or consider themselves above sin by virtue of "being closer to God." They will perform horrifying acts and feel fully justified because it's "God's will."

This is a thing that happens and happened a LOT in the time period of the show.

The show ALSO explicitly implies that God is a real being and that there are those who are devout and faithful and can draw upon his power as a result. It's making statements about the ORGANIZATION of religion and the abuses that take place as a result, not about the faith itself.
>>
>>383399614
God empowers people with holy powers so they can fight draculas shit themselves. Or he does when they follow his teachings at least. Like the demon told the bishop his love isnt unconditional.
>>
>>383399657
im the guy he's mad at - i too just assumed he meant dub as in "english dub"
(english) dubs get released pretty quick these days, which helped to influence my assumption

Castlevania is my favorite series since I played IV as a little kid, but I couldn't even finish the first episode of this. Very dull, cheap looking animation and ugly character designs and worst of all, where is the iconic music? Not an anime fan though, so I guess this isn't for me.
>>
>>383399614
The series has already addressed that evil exists because there has to be balance in Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow. Dracula can do evil because evil is a natural part of the universe. Good exists because something has to fight evil. You can't have one without the other if there is no evil, you can't have a benchmark for what is good, ect. Ellis completely missed this fact
>>
>>383395453
>This would be the crux of the issue, you lobotomized chimp.
The crux of the issue is that a bunch of people who don't give a shit about anime and are into cars enjoy an anime and possible watch other animes?

>>

>>
>>383400370
CV3, then maybe sotn because of the lisa scenes
>>
>>383400082

Trevor, Alucard, Sypha and the townspeople ARE the good to balance evil. They're given strength by God (through consecration, holy water, etc.)

The show even paraphrases the, "The only thing necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing," line.

Good, as with most media, is far more abstract than evil in how it's represented.

Great except:

1. Trevor. He's anti-clerical, cynical, Ellis style quippy hero. He doesn't seem connected to the game Trevor Belmont, who starts the game by praying at a ruined Church.

2. DUDE THE CHURCH IS EVIL subplot. Goes on forever, (it's at least 25 mintues long), and ends up being mostly irrelevant filler.

3. No Grant. Apparently Ellis thinks Pirates r gay.

Nobody is retarded enough to buy this.

The retards that make this hate ther Truth, and the Church, and religion. They hate anything that goes against their hedonism and nihilism.

Like you, they know absolutely nothing about Christianity, nor the Church, nor faith, nor God. Yet you talk about it, because the world teaches you that the more retarded you are regarding one topic, the more retarded you should be about it.

The show is directed by a fedora who made a movie called "For the Bible says so", which is a retarded apology of sodomy in which the evil Christians who oppose it are bigots who just "interpret" the Bible in a bigoted way.

The writer, of course, is another pseudo-intellectual fedora who tries to be DEEP.

Lisa's execution and lynching would've only been brought on if she was accused of being a witch. It was both the townspeople and the church responsible for her death, which is also Dracula's point. In any case, in the show it's consecrated.

Again, fedoras don't care about people believing God is real, as long as they are just silly idiots who don't get in the way of hedonism, nor listen to the EEEEVIL Church.

You can't imagine how many jews and atheists I have seen telling me "what the Bible says", "what true Christianity is" or how I'm not a good christian if I'm not a sodomy apologist.

Anyone who has any idea about what is going in in the current world, knows that the primary target of every single modernist, degenerate, liberal and hedonist is the Church. Once you remove the authority of the Church and dismiss it as some evil corrupt, organization, then you can turn Christianity in whatever you want, because anything goes, since there is no authority.

Motherfucker, the demons who killed the insane bishop basically said that he had more in common with them than with God. He straight up burned an innocent woman. I agree that the series is critical of religion, but it is so in the sense that religious organizations are just as susceptible to corruption and tyranny as any other power structure. Other than the bishop and his thugs, the archbishop's only apparent crime was being fat, while that one priest in ep 4 was an actual holy man who could make holy water.

I'm going to take this moment to point out one of the many detestable things about normies. This is one of more annoying traits on the seemingly infinite list of annoying traits of the normies. Something can exist for a long time, totally unchanged and normies will hate everything about it. But the MOMENT an movie exists about that same thing, they suddenly fall in love with that thing that they hated, but only on the level where they can copy the movie to the T. It doesn't even have to be filmed. Someone can draw a series of hollywood stars doing stupid things and call it [thing] kino and normies think it's a person that they can marry.

Another example of this would be motorsports. Normies hate cars and everything about them, but the second 2fast2furious comes around, they suddenly love motorsports, but only if they can use that shitbox of a car and drift around listening to rap (which they will cancerously refer to as "gansta rap" like in the movie). Motorsports existed forever. Nothing changed about it. They only reason they now suddenly love it is because they can relate it to one single movie.

Can't tell if serious.

I mean, if someone tells you, "This is what the Bible says," unless they're objectively wrong, what is your criticism? The Bible excuses a lot of things we would find morally reprehensible in modern society and gives rules for living we now find antiquated (mixed fabrics, not eating shellfish, etc.)

That aside, the Church's "authority" (which Church, by the way?) Is absolutely unnecessary now. A secular point of view and moral system is superior in nearly every way to one based in superstition and myth.

Don't get me wrong, practice what you want and believe what you believe but the Church has no place in any position of power or authority.

Okay, so we know that season 2 will be eight episodes long. But I have a question, how will they possibly pad the story of castlevania 3 to eight episodes. The first four episodes were barely even in the original game. Obviously, we'll have an episode featuring Grant. I'm guessing that will be the second or third episode, and will be about how the trio arrives at the clocktower, where Grant is a monster, and the trio manages to break Dracula's curse and recruit Grant. But other than that, I can't really think of any other interesting episodes. We're gonna get a bunch of walking through corridors and boss fights.

The CV timeline places Trevor in his late teens in CV III and his early twenties in Curse of Darkness. Most fiction has always involved adult characters and it still does. Most of the complaints I see about "teen" protagonists is hilarious to me and I have to wonder what those people consume on average because most fiction that isn't aimed at children or teens have adult protagonists. Not to mention that in a period before the mid 20th century, you were practically considered an adult by the age of 12 and should be married with children by 16

Seven Deadly Sins was way worse. The second "season" doesn't proper the plot AT ALL. It takes place between the last fight and the last scene in the first season and is literally just them wandering around town during that time.

Everything about this post is fucking garbage.

>Trevor's age
It's not even mentioned and he doesn't necessarily look any older than say, DXC Richter.

>Sypha's disguise
Yeah, let's give one of the main characters a non-speaking role even though it makes no sense when she's around allies. Besides, judging from how Trevor and Syfa immediately snuggle up in the CV3 ending you can infer that her gender was always known to the group. It was just not immediately known to the player since that was a cute thing to do at the time (Metroid).

>Alucard
It's his most iconic design and it's not like it doesn't make sense. He has his mom's hair. OG CV3 Alucard isn't very distinguishable from Dracula.

>evil church
The Belmonts being excommunicated was an actual thing in the backstory setting up CV3. Lisa getting burned to the stake was an actual thing in SotN. This shit begs to be worked with if you're telling an actual narrative for the beginning of the series. Besides, the show makes it clear that the priest is deluded and has been abandoned by god. In the games the Belmonts are welcomed back into the church proper following CV3, and that will likely happen here as well.

I've only finished episode 2, so maybe Trevor changes, but his character is pretty fucking cringey. I understand his family name has gotten fucked over pretty bad, but I really hope he has that moment where he really comes into the Belmont name. I know Trevor's personality albeit barely existent in SOTN was kind of boring, and righteous. But, i don't really have a problem with that.

Having Trevor with this almost dick ass thief, dog eat dog world attitude is just really nauseating.. So I really hope he has some sort of character moment where he changes. Because as of now he's a fucking cringefest.

Dracula was pretty good, and the other character's that have been introduced seem to be okay, to good tier as far as they go. The violence rides that fine line pretty well between distasteful, and warranted. But, that's just me.

Overall 6.5/10 so far.

I liked how they turned his in-game teleport into an actual move he used. 10/10 Drac and Alucard, 10/10 Sypha, 8/10 Trevor, needs less swearing and being less of an asshole.
Hopefully they get to turn the show to the right direction, it was really enjoyable. If they add Castlevania-ish music they will be loved forever.

ADVENTURE show. Ep 1 is Dracula backstory as seen. Ep 2 is Trevor kneeling at a church, setting off through the ruined country side on his quest. He meets characters from the show on his JOURNEY (so far he's not journeyed, he just went to the town over) building his band. You can easily get 4 eps out of this.

>>383407701

Trevor is wandering and goalless for most of this. He doesn't care about Dracula at first. Then he sorta, for no real reason, decides its his destiny to fight Dracula.

That's not necessarily correct. They normally don't enter churches and holy places because in their weakened state they would get BTFO. But strong demons could enter almost anywhere, though it would weaken them.

Western version did not include the special soundchip for the music, so it's a little less complex. Still okay. Also they ramped up the difficulty a lot. they gimped Grant to only wield a knife as a weapon (not throwing).

JP version has a special soundchip, and Grant is OP. He has infinite zero cost throwing knives, which combined with his clinging powers breaks the game. Once you get him it's a cakewalk.

Going beyond this even the show made a point to show that the bystanders were being manipulated and didn't know any better. Even Lisa herself, charring to a crisp, wasn't blaming them.

Why did Dracula keep attacking after he learned Lisa's true last wishes to leave mankind alone in SOTN?
>>
>>383412690

Because she doesn't let them introduce Alucard who thanks to SotN is one of the series' iconic characters.
>>
>>383412730

"Manipulation" only goes so far. The people are all shitheads, Trevor even says as much as the people who never spoke up are just as culpable. They're easily whipped into a mob by anyone with a voice. They didn't know the Speakers but were told they were responsible and ready to kill them. Then Trevor blamed the priests and suddenly they're stabbing the priest. Dracula is purging the cancer

The show was trying too hard to be dark and edgy, that means no references to the game outside of a credit in the opening.

He didn't.

Chronoglocially SOTN of the night is the last time Dracula attacked humanity.

In PoR he never actually fucks with anyone. Brahmn is the villain. Dracula only fights your characters at the end because he's bored and see's you as a distraction.

Everything else he did is Pre-SOTN and set in an earlier part of the time line.
>>

With Dracula referring to Lisa as "the only one he's ever truly loved" the events of that game might actually not be canon.

Honestly, I thought that Lament was a really clumsy and unnecessary origin story.
>>

I read a fanfiction story where Alucard stops him again. They argue that Dracula will forever be at war with humanity because regardless of his wife's feelings that's what he feels he must do, just as Alucard feels like he must stop him.

Honestly, they did an alright job up till the end of episode 1. Not too bad, I mean for fucks sake it's a series about Dracula, "dark" and "edgy" are a given. It wasn't great by any means, barely good even. They just sadly went with the cliche "reluctant anti hero" schtick that's been done a million times before in no new or inventive way with a character that, that style doesn't fit with at all.. The dark, or edgy material in my opinion is done in a tolerable way. That's the best I can say about it. Tolerable.

It's not bait. Unlike you, I actually saw the show.

Most of the posts here are trying to build up the show as having the potential to be a great love letter to the games. In reality, it's just another normie trash Netflix show that misrepresents all the good things about the games because someone involved is embarrassed it's based off a game or something like that.

That's what bothers me the most about these 4 episodes. It rides on the airs of "please forget this was an NES game".

this series is an anime, even if it's a western one

Anime doesn't have an official definition that limits it to "animation made only by Japanese people". Japanese studios worked and co-produced many western cartoons, and many animes were made and co-produced by people outside of Japan.

This show has way too pure anime traits to be logical to call it a cartoon. It's not even like The Last Airbender where they at least mixed in some western cartoon traits.

I actually did skim through it and I still don't find the theory compelling for Castlevania. Those other works are very clear that Dracula's wife has been or that he thinks she's been reincarnated. The fact is that the Castlevania series never makes this clear at all. It's never stated and you have to just theorize based on something that may possibly just be lip-service to the source material.

Some dedicated Castlevania nerds need to start making proper ports of the games. Konami is just gonna hire some cheap dev who will do rushjobs like Capcom did for Mega man. Castlevania deserves better than that.

You know Taxman? He did remasters of Sonic 1,2, and CD. Took the game's assets put them in a new custom engine, and rebuilt the games. That's the sort of treatment Castlevania games should get.

I don't think Konami has the equivalent of a Sega of America to let prospective devs get their foot in the door. The classic Sonic remasters ultimately happened since Sega funded them.

Sorry but if you thought that show was even remotely interesting then congratulations! You like one of the worst fucking shows of the decade! Woopity fucking hoo, it's a show about magic and fake politics. Haven't seen one of those in a while!
Anime is literally in the same state Hollywood is in right now, with a bunch of retards paying to watch shitfests like Transformers and Superhero movies, you've no right to call anime shit or convoluted with exclusivity when this is all but doubled in an industry that literally thrives off of sequels and remakes right now.
The rule of 90% of everything is garbage has never changed and the 90's were just as bad as the 2000's. This decade is similar.
The only things that change are trends, you can't sell the same shit endlessly. The 80's was chock full of just as much pandering as the 90's and 2000's. The only difference being that those decades capitalized on selling shitloads of mecha crap, but lo and behold! The moment someone tries to sell something different from what I like means its shit!
There's just as many good series today as there have been the decade before and so on, but if you can't find them, then it means you need to watch more and develop a critical sense so you can filter shit out easily.

tl;dr: Watch more anime before you try to argue that it's all shit you fucking newfag.
