It tries to guess what the player is trying to accomplish to animate it properly. Which I strongly dislike. AssCreed is a game where every mistake is the game's fault and no success is the player's accomplishment. In contrast Half-Life has such unambiguous control that every success is the player's accomplishment and every failure is the player's fault. AC makes you curse the game for fucking up. HL makes you laugh at yourself when you suck.
