People saying the Switch will die because of homebrew are just fucking stupid.

Setting up homebrew on a console is usually way too involved for most casuals to even consider doing. Hell, most casuals don't even know what homebrew is.

A few thousand people getting free games out of the few million people who will probably still be buying games is ultimately just a drop of water in an ocean. Let the homebrew peeps have their fun.

I don't give a fuck about emulating Switch games. There's nothing of value yet that needs to be emulated, and I know it's inevitable like it was with the GCN, Wii, and now Wii U. The emulation scene is feverish for Nintendo shit.

What I want more than anything is for the Switch to be blown open and become a platform for emulation and homebrew. It's a cool little device with a great screen and enough power to do what I want, but Nintendo will be fucking abhorrent at supporting it for what it'll be good for. It needs to be cracked and opened up so the free market can support as it should be.

Android is a Linux distro, Nintendo uses a custom BSD based OS. In that they're both Free UNIX based OSes yes they're very similar.

Switch isn't likely to have the same user space APIs though, and even its Vulkan based graphics API is customized so porting software may not be as easy as you think.

If you want a portable emulator system you're probably better off waiting for next-gen android based devices, or a system built around the upcoming Ryzen/Vega SOC hardware.

Last week I had a coworker literally give me $80 to put homebrew on his Wii. Not Wii U, Wii. He and an old one collecting dust and wanted me to turn it into an emulation box because he wanted an NES classic so bad - I told him he could just emulate every NES game in existence with pretty much any modern device. He asked "Can you do Wii?"

Easy $80. Literally just Lettwrbomb DisosMios, and then throw in torrents for game collections. Normaalfags about this stuff and it's too hard for them. He's giving me his 3DS and PSP soon as well. Easy $80 a pop.

Oh boy. I can't wait to play Doom, Cave Story, and Pong on my Switch!
