I forced myself to give DS2 another go (completed it once within launch week and never touched it again so the DLC was all new). It's actually way better than I remember, and tons better than DS3 IMO.

Because DaS1 was brilliant in the first half and kind of meh in the later half. It had some rough corners but it was also charming because of its rough corners.
Then DaS2 comes along and because of its large scope it takes a step forward but the catastrophic development also meant that it took 2-3 steps back because it had to work with scraps. It also ended up sanding off some the rough corners in the DaS1 experience.
Finally DaS3 comes out with 5 games worth of experience behind it and is built from the ground up being able to use the power of the next generation of consoles (no matter how small of an increase that might be) and it's uninspired and low effort, reyling on references that aren't even properly done. It takes fewer steps forward than would have been expected and takes several steps back from DaS1 and further sands off any of the corners that were left after DaS2.
