The Witcher is designed around quest markers though, open world games like Morrowind and Breath of the Wild are not and use cleverly placed landmarks to help guide the player and in the case of games like Gothic, Arcanum or New Vegas you can complete quests in a multitude of ways that correspond to how you built your character. Need to get that item from someone? You can talk them out of it, kill them for it, pickpocket them, do a favor for them in return for it, etc.
