Enemies prioritize phantoms and can be used to distract. It's incredibly useful later in the game and during certain missions like the 10 archers in a room in the desert on Celica's route to draw fire away from your characters. It also gets insane when Silque learns invoke since she invokes dread fighters that actually are capable of fighting and surviving multiple hits.

I'm getting tired of Fire Emblem games only being capable of being good at one thing or the other but never both. Fire Emblem is a series that actually does benefit from having a decently enough written world and cast, as it can tie into multiple objectives on each map. I just wish we could finally have another game that even tries to be good at both gameplay and story instead of only settling for one side being good enough. I certainly did enjoy Echoes to an extent at least, it managed to handle integrating its writing with the gameplay better than the other 3DS games ever did (and it was left unchanged from the NES game in everything it did there, that's fucking sad)

I really really want to hope we can look forward to anything like this from FE Switch without having to be held back by NES design customs. I want a villain like Berkut again, and I want scenes to actually have branching dialogue that's dependant on characters dying again. I was honestly happy to see Echoes manage to do even that much, and even with the characters who do only retreat because they show up in too many scenes to be dropped, their defeat is still changed to an actual death once you're far enough into the game. Better than what Fates did where Niles and Odin are simply retreated no matter what point you are in the game because they have to say their three fucking lines when Leon joins.

Fates is better.
No matter how fucking shit the story is, if the gameplay sucks it isn't a good video game. Echoes and Fates prove this.

Unlikely you would've no matter how good at strategy you where unless you're Japanese. Fire Emblem was virtually unknown outside Japan until Super Smash Bros Melee introduced people to it, and then FE7 became a huge hit. Anyone that bothered to go back and play any of the older games is fairly hardcore fan in my book. I've always been surprised FE4 is as highly regarded as it is, seeing how so few people would have played it when it was new.

How did you guys feel about the dungeon crawling in SoV? I actually really enjoyed it. Or at least the idea of it. I've always wanted to play an SRPG where you could walk around and explore in 3D and encounters on the map would be small SRPG battles. So it was a surprise to me to find out that a game based on a game from 25 years ago had a feature I had wanted for as long as I played SRPGs. I would have liked it more if the map you fought on resembled where you were in the dungeon more closely because they felt really samey after a while. I thought the last dungeon for Alm was really plain and boring looking too. But I would love to see what they could do with a new game that isn't based on the Awakening engine. So I hope to see a more polished version of dungeon crawling in the Switch game. Maybe more things to interact with and find. But I'm not a long time Fire Emblem fan. I've only been playing since Shadow Dragon so I'd like to know what the rest of you guys think about the dungeons.

There's basically no advantage to using her tome over a blade one, they're both there to stack damage, ones just worse than the other.

Her usual build would be TA/DB/Fury and Desperation or Sword/Lancebreaker. You've got a pretty good one with +Atk though, a lot better than my -Atk, 4* Booey

There are some slight advantages to the owl tome, actually.

It's less vulnerable to the stuff that inverts your buffs (panic ploy, etc)

It's useful for baiting enemies since your defenses also get buffed


And since the owl tome requires your units to stay together it plays better with spurs and multiple spurs stack, so you could stack like 3 atk spurs and surround your owl tomer with them

I do wish they made more adjustments to the maps of the game, but I had a lot of fun with it on my first run through / my replay where I did a no promotion challenge. Celica Act 3 is really the only part of the game I don't have fun playing. Villager Tobin (aka Lightning Sword) is best unit
