Metropolismania 1 and 2 though they can get stressful

Yes, I hear you can only get snow if you buy the DLC and then it's permanent i.e. it doesn't change with the weather
>>
Controversial, but Simcity Societies can be comfy.
>>
I've been too stupid to get into A-Train 9.

Where is a good place to start in the series?
>>
>>383352747
that's kind of retarded. I just bought it on the summer sale and I saw the all the 'DLC'
jews!!
>>
>>383353604
A-Train PC classic seems to be a good starting off point and you get traffic in it, I hated how lifeless A-Train 9 seems but I hear it has had a lot of updates that aren't on Steam
>>383353809
Fucking paradox, They upped their prices before the sale so you got less money off that you thought you were.
>>
any recommended updates for sim city 4?
>>
>>383350836
>sixty bucks

The bastards. Did they fix the pirate version already?
>>
>>383355142
Think so, I mean that's how I got it and it seems to work fine.
>>
>>383350836
TheoCities is a pretty decent SimCity clone on Android. More akin to SimCity 2000 than 4 in features though, I would say.

>>383352747
That's too fucking stupid to be true. Can someone verify?
>>
>>383356128
It is exactly how it works, and yes, it is dumb. I would not mind it if not for that, it is a niche genre, it can only survive by milking autism.
>>
>>383356128
Snow is, basically, a map type. If you're on a snowy map, then it's always snowy.
>>
>>383356128
The way the snow works is like this

When you start a new map, it can either be a normal map or a snow map.

So your old cities won't get snow. But to be fair the way the snow is handled is actually pretty detailed, so it's more than just a different weather effect.
>>
>>383350836
Tropico 4 with modern times is comfy as shit, don't like a random pedestrian's thoughts? Shoot him!
>>
>>383356862
dunno how it is in the rest of the tropico games, but in tropico 5 you barely have any building options. so the feeling of building your own city really isn't there if ultimately you're just plopping the same few buildings everywhere

While it's not strictly speaking a city-builder, I actually found Factorio to be more scratching my city management and logicstic building itch more than any other relatively recent game there is out there. I literally cannot go back to Cities Skylines after playing 500+ hours of Factorio.

I wish somebody took the lessons from it and incorporated them into an ACTUAL new City-builder. PARTICULARLY the idea of pre-planning, ghosting structures and blueprints. Fuck me those things are sorely missed in the genre. Also actually really interesting and fun rail-road building and management, where shit like making proper junctions and stations feels like a real fucking challenge.
>>
>>383366305
wow you really convinced me, at last I truly see!
>>
>>383365541
I'm actually not sure yet, they're a recent addition. The game's in active development and seems to have come a fair way since I last played it.

I just got back from tooling around with it a bit, and my initial impressions are that the IAP purchases slow the game pace down a little, as now the triple speed costs in-game currency and buildings construct more slowly, with the ability to rush building for currency. The tradeoff is that the city now earns currency and builds while you're gone (which I don't think it did before), so you don't have to sit and wait for stuff to finish. Also a lot of buildings let you rush construction for free, not sure if that's that's just something they're doing for the time being or not.

They've also added extra buildings you can buy for in-game currency to the store. They seem to be mostly if not entirely decorative, though.

Modded Sim City 4 is the greatest city builder ever.

>>383369431
>no Anno
>>
>>383369431
>no sc4
>>
>>383369431
To me, Banished suffers from two major flaws.
First is the fact that ultimately, the game actually mostly boils down to tweaking numbers in a tab. The placement of the buildings is less important than the fucking job distribution, and MORE than half of the game could actually played in Microsoft Excel interface and it would be exactly the same experience.
The other problem I have is that you can't make fields and zone-based structures in any other shape than fucking rectangles with pre-set minimal and maximal surface. That triggers my fucking autism hardcore. "I have this beautiful piece of land between the river and the main road PERFECTLY fit to be an apple orchard. Not no: the space is not a perfect rectangle so you can't use it.
Fuck you game. Adapting and forming your city layout to the terrain is two thirds of the fun in city-building games. And I can't do it here. Fuck you.

I dislike how limited the schedule management is in A-train pc classic. For example I can't have a train be active on two periods of the day. I can't have them skip a station when going one way but not the other. I can't make them alternate on a switch. I can't make them have different stopping behaviors at deadhead hours. Also the tutorials seem really long winded and boring. Still feels like a decent game, but I don't know if I prefer it to Transport Tycoon.
>>
I don't want to buy SC4.

it's the weakest of the Anno series i'll admit but its visually stunning if you want to make a sci fi metropolis.

Nah this shit is a blight
>>
>>383370863
I've been playing it with the Colonial Charter mod and it's got a lot more on offer that way. Aside from what you already mentioned, I have another issue with the base game which is that I enjoy getting to that point in a city builder where the city is self sufficient, yet in Banished there's a limited number of hillsides on a map to build mines on, and mines run out of resources eventually and can't be demolished. So even if you do everything right there will be an inevitable point where your map is full of useless mines and you'll only be able to trade for iron and coal to support your village.
>>
>>383373239

's realistic anon
>>
>>383370863
Nah, problem with Banished is that it's a part time survival simulator aka once you figure out how to survive through winter game loses a lot of the appeal for me.

Settlers IV? I remember that game being sort of fun as a kid.
Im not very familiar with city building games.

>let you import sim city levels you made into this game so you could deathmatch in them with cars with rocket launchers and machineguns
this shit was fucking awesome. why cant we do that with these city building games? just let you drop these maps into gta or whatever the fuck. sure, itll be not as detailed road details gonna be limited, so no ultra realistic road dimples and simplistic repeating houses, but fuck it would be neat to create your hometown and dick around in it for a while

I just wish it had a better singleplayer campaign.

>>383373624
because of all the additions of haemont are utterly unbalanced shit that makes the guy extremely easy, it would be hard to find a more talentless developer

hardest thing in tropico 3 and foward is traffic because the traffic ai is retarded and you are given no tools to deal with the issue except just one single type of road, shit doesnt even have traffic lights

The Tropicos are the definition of a fluke. Everything else Haemimont has done proves they have no clue how to make a game.

Banished with CC is fun but I always get a big where workers went pick up iron. Searched the internet everywhere and no fix.

Wasn't there a few games where you could dump most of your money into a stock, and then the AI would just build on it's own? The Capitalism games and I swear there was a railroad tycoon that did that.
>>
>>383376138
it will be interesting to see what they do with it but I don't have much hope for it. One of the things I hate the most about the newer tropicos is the overly wacky style and the unfunny commentary, and i doubt they will change that for tropico 6 but who knows. Tropico 1 has the best atmosphere by far. It has some of those elements but it's tactful and doesn't shove it down your throat every few couple of minutes. Tropico 4 and 5 feel like they were written by some retard redditor
