In chrono trigger the main characters basically become invincible time lords and kill a planet eating space god. Along the way while traveling through time they come to an ancient kingdom that is secretly being controlled by the planet eater. This is like, mid way through the game. While exploring said kingdom, there is this joke of a boss that is a member of the royal family. He is your standard comedic relief mid-boss, he summons these weak as shit mini bosses to defend himself and you push his shit in twice.

It is assumed he dies with the rest of the ancient kingdom when you blow up their magic power source and server their connection with the planet eater and the whole kingdom dies.

This worthless piece of shit who is canonically weaker than the main cast some how manages to land in the same time period as the main casts' home time period, he arrives in a small town with literally 3 buildings and 10 npcs and some how turns them into a giant fucking army which then proceeds to steam roll the kingdom of your main characters and kills them.


It's absolute bullshit.

I don't know how accurate it is, but I once read an article that explained that contrary to what we view as a standard 3 act structure, Japanese storytelling defaults to a 4 act structure. The first two acts are basically the same, then the third act introduces something crazy out of nowhere that had nothing to do with the first two acts, and then act 4 is supposed to harmonize everything as a whole. Again, it could be bullshit, but when I read that it made sense why a lot of Japanese games turn into plot-dumps somewhere in the last half and endings often lack "payoff."

RD is kind of weird, some of the plot things that occur in it don't even carry over. Basically Surge (who speaks here), Kid, and Gil (Magus) wish to find the frozen flame as it said to grant any wish. The thing is Masato Kato (the main writer of the series) never intended it to tie into CT originally.
