There's no way Dota belongs anywhere but the top right corner. I play almost nothing but strategy games including a brief stint with SC2 where I was Diamond 1v1 for three seasons and getting to 5k in Dota has easily been the most challenging thing I've experienced in a video game by a gigantic margin. The APM is more comparable than people think, according to Opendota my average APM on someone like AM or Storm where you're constantly trying to farm efficiently is ~300 and there's a much higher level of coordination and execution required when you have four other people that can shut you down in teamfights.
How can anyone possibly think shit like Civ, KSP, HoMM, X-COM, EU, and Total War requires even a fraction of the strategy that high level Dota does, let alone greater than it? Shit is baffling. Also lmao @ LoL being that high in excitement, I guess if you enjoy watching gooks rice for twenty minutes and have less than ten total kills happen half an hour into the match but then win because 5 > 4 and you can just push down a lane and end if you get a couple pick offs. LoL is an Overwatch tier eSport, balanced around casuals and stale as fuck competitively and only enjoyed because its huge playerbase forces it to stay relevant and the average player probably doesn't have the brain power to press more than two buttons at once so they'll find anything impressive.

DotA is actually the best sports type game ever created by man.
I like EU IV, but I fucking hate it when people think that it's some sort of super-deep autismo game. Sure, it has a lot of different concepts to get hang of when you start it for the first time, but once one gets past the initial learning phase, that's it. Certainly not a hard or deep game, unless you are doing some of those harder challenge runs.
Should have something like Aurora or those super-detailed grognard miltary sim strategies there (War in the East etc.), desu.

XCOM and CIV are purely turned based, and Europa Universalis has so much going on that you'll have to fairly play at a slow pace. I like the games, and know that they're not "exciting" in the sense of "being fast paced"
According to this standard, every RTS should be in or near the cognitive threshold.Especially Supreme Commander, holy shit

Eu4 is one of my favourite games, but the graph is still arbitrary.
I think eu4 is better described as having width than depth imo.
When I think about it, it should be a lot higher on the excitement axis. I have decent apm while playing broodwar, and when I play multiplayer eu4 I still feel like my apm could be a little higher.¨
I don't see how total war is listed there.
Do people play it multiplayer and is there a lot of quick decisions that need to be made then?
>>383308982
I tried to play EU IV as Castille, but I found it quite difficult. I declared war on the country just to the south of me (think it was Grenada or something?) and they kicked my ass and conquered me.

>>383330315

>>383330315
There's a bit of a threshold to get over, but after you get over that threshold a lot of stuff in eu4 starts to look simple, probably why people go
>eu4
>Hard
Every other week I play in a eu4 multiplayer game and one new guy who had played eu4 once in vanilla and played a lot of eu3 got rekt by the AI, while another new guy got rekt by a more experience player(the one who got rekt by a player had a very easy nation even).
They've been destroyed in that competitive eu4 game, but I and another more experienced guy started a coop game with them to try to teach them stuff, and it is surprising what you need to teach people getting into the game.
It's easy to explain concepts like how you get money, and how to spend your mana, but when it comes to troop movements and managing your manpower it is harder to give a few quick tips. I don't know what the best way is to teach someone the art of war in that game.
