>>383303306
You sound like you're bad at killing stress inducing enemies then. You should be using a shuffler/back line stun/4th rank damage dealer or any combination therein to clear those guys first. The houndmaster has the best stress heal for the whole party, use it 2-3 rounds after leaving one last enemy usually a high prot low damage enemy so you get cleared up.

Good on a mark team/stress healer. If you go up against something like the Prophet you can have an Occultist mark and weaken him, one or two houndmasters tear up the back line with rush and biscuits. Could even use Bounty hunter in front, hound in second, occultist in third and arbalest/musketeer in 4th for a decent mark party.

Hound is just pretty versatile from ranks 2-4, can work in 1. Hits pretty much any rank from any rank and his camping skills are really good. Add onto that his stress heal and he can let you flex picks for your dungeon comp into whatever you want. He's a little underwhelming at lower resolve but he starts getting pretty good at 3-6.

Also adding onto that he has one of the highest rates of stun proc. I think with a trinket it is around 200%. Pretty much enough to get 2-3 stuns off most mobs. You would have to keep him in position 2 I think. Plus his mark is a prot debuff and a damage increase so it's particularly good for beefy enemies.
>>
>>383306839
A solid position 3 or 2. When you get to Veteran and Champion Weald, most of the enemies hit really hard your first two positions and a houndmaster guard your first position and get to 100 dodge easily with the right items, making your front row almost invincible. He has an amazing stun ability, can deal a lot of damage to beast enemies which are plenty in Warrens, his Mark talent has the highest -PROT in the game.

His utility in unmatched

He is straight up versatile. There are some classes that have versatile roles for different reasons.

He has a really good single target stun, he can guard for a character while buffing his dodge so he won't get hit, has a good self heal, has a good single target attack that deals more damage against beasts and marked, can self mark, and can do a party wide stress heal. He is useful in all ranks.

An insane asylum or an arctic expedition both seem like they'd make for good possible expansion settings. I'm really hoping it isn't simply a desert tomb. That seems too obvious.

Ayy, but he starts the story as a typical Lovecraftian character, it really seems unintentional. Notice how every boss story basically starts with him being in a bad position or not overly fucked up, and the truth only gets revealed by the end of the second paragraph? This game tried to subtly twist the perception of the viewer, but the narrator was so memetic that everyone kinda learned he was an awful piece of shit way too early.

If you're going for Weald then you need a hero who can guard, so either a Man-at-Arms or a Houndmaster. My typical Weald party is;
Vestal/Jester/MaA/Hellion
You need to watch out for Giants in Weald who can crit you for up to 60 damage, and with MaA or Houndmaster you guard your Hellion to mitigate Treebranch Smackdowns. I bring Hellion since she can attack the position 4 and it's especially important when you have Hateful Viragos, one of her strong suits is her ability to be able to each row.
Jester buff is also important when facing giant, extra speed guarantees you to play before the giant so you don't get hit before you were able to use guard. And his Bleed attacks are all good for the fungal enemies you'll face in Weald.
Vestal is just Vestal,

Arctic sounds incredible actually
>opens after you defeat the ship at least twice, the ship actually takes you to the location
>because it's a ghost ship your characters start stressed out as fuck
>it's never dark until the last mission is set in POLAR NIGHT but your characters are constantly freezing (except fucking vampires, so it might be beneficial to bring them on board with a lot of blood)
>camping becomes more prominent because torches go out fast, so you need to bring more food and ration it accordingly
>An undead half-corrupted polar bear is a mini-boss
>one of the bosses is a super zombified walrus
>ancestor went there to unearth the typical lovecraftian arctic civilization and use its inventions
>he fucked up bad because the civilization was aylium and they wanted nothing to do with DD and its shit
>another boss is a giant writhing Shoggoth with a form-changing gimmick

cont'd, now if you're going after Brigand Pounder in Weald then i'd suggest you to bring;
Vestal/Grave Robber/Houndmaster/Leper

You'll need heroes who can shutdown Brigand Fuser, lest you get blown the fuck out by the cannon. Grave Robber with trinkets that increases her damage can easily one-shot him and if not, houndmaster can always help her to finish him off. Houndmaster is required because you'll most likely face few giants/fungal squads and his guard will come in handy and unlike MaA he can hit all 4 positions. Leper can use Hew to deal damage both the brigand the cannon spawns and the cannon itself, Vestal is there for usual sustain and can use Judgment on Fuser if GraveRobber/Houndmaster somehow couldn't kill him.

I dont know how you guys feel about empathy, suffering, pain and other sad emotions, but years of playing videogames made me see game characters as tools. When i play game, i see challenges, principles and struggles to overcome.

So when i saw pic related on /v/, i picked it up to see muh controversy. It did exactly nothing to me. It was just another fps shooter with weird ending with guy in mirror pointing gun at you.

However i am older now, so when i watch movies or read books, i feel really bad when i see characters in bad situations and i root for them to survive (which i didnt when was dumb teen).

Am i weird? I really dont see heroes in DD as people who suffer. Just as a pawns i use to get loot.

1.So the whole thing was for nothing?
2. Was there another expedition into the tomb prior to this game?
3. What the hell is the "Light" is it another old one or what?
4.Where do you go after sacrificing someone? Do they actually die or become one with the entity?
5. Is it ever explained from the game mechanic why going into the darkest dungeon and coming out alive makes them refuse to enter again? (aside from "mechanics")

1.It's a laundering scheme devised by antediluvian jews. Use a sockpuppet ((ancestor)) to make a mess, than bait his successor into sorting shit out to forward your own plans. I bet you everything the next guy you're baiting into The Hamlet will try to unearth all the bad shit again to use its powers against itself.
2.There were countless expeditions by countless generations of madmen.
3.Doesn't seem so. Maybe it will be explained in a future DLC. Consider the following: in Lovecraftian stories intense light is the same shit as darkness i.e. really really bad stuff housing invisible indescribable horrors. Azatoth, the heart of the Universe, is surrounded by maddening bright light.
4.Blood of all sacrifices flows to the heart due to how close The Hamlet is to it on the Z-axis. Notice how most of Ancestor's experiments create a stable system of creation/destruction, like dead reviving dead. More sacrifices, more blood, more lifeforce for the Heart.
5.I'd imagine going into the house of your worst nightmares come true, with literal flesh hallways and Shoggoth monsters, is going to break you once and for all. It would be infuriating from the mechanic standpoint but I'd love it if all the heroes who came alive from DD would go back to level 0 immediately after, simply to show how fucked up they got.

Leper can't do anything from rows 3-4, has no way to advance himself, cannot hit row 3 and has accuracy problems. He also doesn't have a stun or blight, and his heal and stress heal are two different abilities.

If you think the two classes are even remotely similar other than having a row 1-2 cleave you are a fucking moron.

In a twist, the desert was not there at first. The Ancestor comissioned a sarcophagus to be delivered to his mansion. Deliverers got greedy and opened it on the way to check for valuable gems. They became the first servants of the eternal Black Pharaon. As time went by, more and more people from nearby towns became zombies, grinding old bones into sand-like dust and carving mountain rocks into perfect blocks, until, one day, a pyramid rose in the middle of a white desert.

Not sure how dying is somehow better than getting afflicted, not to mention champion giants have 95 stun resist and 85 debuff resist. Swinetaurs are even worse, as are esquires, skivers, slashers, choppers, collected highwaymen, raiders, some bosses (croc) and pretty much every enemy in the cove. Not being able to hit them reliably or do good damage without setup hurts and will get you killed on styg, especially if you're playing torchless.

The basic ponzi scheme is that you were tricked into spilling more blood (sacrifices) in an attempt to stop the ancestors mistakes and implies it's going to be (or is already) an endless cycle of new descendants trying to fix shit.

There's some vagueness or inconstancy. Like at the end ghost ancestor is there to go "actually this was a trick to feed old god baby" which begs the question of why he NEEDED to kill himself or how the narrator seems genuinely repentant for all the shit he did and as the narrator it's not like he's directly talking to your "character".

I'd say this is really the first instance of it happening at least for him because the letter at the start is specifically from him to you rather than from "hello family I tried to fix shit but gotta kill myself now could you please just happen to stop by and try too!" (although I guess you could just fake being your ancestor which would be odd).

Regardless I'd imagine with the like gateway to chaos under the mansion at the very least every few hundred years the crazy lord of the land has done the EXACT same thing to at least a few of his descendants.

Also I just find it weird that specifically it's finding out we're all just a part of a great cosmic horror baby that drove him to crazy. Guy seemed to be THE MADMAN more than anyone.

If you want to get the lore whole sale, alright.

Short version:
Darkest Dungeon lore is
>Go to Granpappy's house after he sent you a letter before killing himself, begging you to fix his crimes against humanity for the sake of Eldritch curiosity, only to find out he was ruse cruising you into helping wake up an ancient evil that will destroy the world

Long version:
The game starts out with
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjF7rMhxNhg
And with him saying things like 'In time, you will know the tragic extent of my failings' you figure he did some bad things but he's repented by now.
Then you fight the bosses and learn what exactly he did that made it so that EVERYTHING wrong in the Estate is his fault, and how much of an evil bastard he really was.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtjV4vd4Jok
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHT5YLTZa_w
But then it reaches that point where you realize only seeing the end result of what lied at the end of the Darkest Dungeon what was what made him repentant of everything and kill himself.

Then you get to the Darkest Dungeon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiqCYrNmwkM
And the Ancestor was fooling you into coming here the whole time to throw bodies at the Estate to waken the horror in the earth.
He was an avatar for the horror the whole time. And even though he lost, this is all an on-going psuedo-timeloop where everything resets and a new Heir is sent to eventually awaken the chaos and destroy the world.

So yeah, your summary is more or less correct

If you read randall's journals, you will understand he's right. Killing done in the name of necessity is permissable. Best ending is kill white legs, spare Salt on Wounds. Daniel on the other hand evacuates Zion and cries about getting cucked

>Madness can take many forms, but none so contemptible as man's belief in a mythology of his own making. A world view buttressed by dogmatic desperation invariably leads to single-minded fanaticism, and a need to do terrible things in the name of righteousness. This man is an animal - rabid, destructive, and incapable of nuanced understanding. He must be put down.

Reminder he did nothing wrong.

not really, but he is great as usual. they shit on him more, just because. i really enjoyed the game though, probably my favorite that i've played from telltale. i just got it during the summer sale, and except for a couple parts in episode 3 and final fight, it was great. i know the humor of borderlands catches some flak around here but i thought that it was really funny. $6 i don't regret spending.
