independent as in they work on their own, yes they are owned by sony but they are not a part of SCE.x
in the same vein as R* are independent, that despite being owned by take two, they are allowed to do their own thing.
I doubt sony are pushing them to release games by deadlines.
It was obvious that they done that with SS though, as it was a tech demo/launch game to show off the PS4 hardware and controller functions.
