Focus on doing some early game farming, Traps can get you a few good hits but don't rely on them, watch the monsters n learn their patterns, don't make Armor purely for their defensive stats, armor skills are very important, Tail parts are gotten from cutting off tails, crotch before you gather or carve to do it faster.

step 1. find the weapon you like most that you're decent at using

step 2. the solution to every problem is either trying over and over until you git gud OR grinding the last monster you defeated 5-10 times to craft the latest set of weapons and armor

I would reccomended using hunting horn as a beginner. They are really helpful weaponsnin multiplayer and all you really need to do is spam songs away from the monster to help your teammates out.
