What does /v/ think of Spore now that the dust has settled?
>>
>>383280424
Legitimately more fun to watch shit like the /v/ spore threads than play it (after the cell and creature stages, which aren't too bad).
Also sucks that they locked mechanical body parts behind buying fucking Coca Cola.
>>
>>383280424
The creature creator is fun- but the game is nonexistent

Fun creator, shit rest.

I think people who flip out over that original E3 demonstration really need to take a hard look at it again, and realize that it doesn't actually show anything that isn't in the released game. Things are only superficially better in that demo, like the creature animations being a bit better. People just filled in the blanks with their own hopes in dreams, when in reality there weren't actually any blanks there at all.
>>
>>383281274
what's the point of this exactly?
>>
>>383280424
Making monsters was cool, they shouldn't have hyped it so much and just said "We're making a neat monster maker game"
>>
>>383282324
That nothing is permanent and you can't get attached to physical things.
>>
>>383282324
It's about letting go of things.

They spend ages putting it together and then rub it away to demonstrate the temporary nature of things and the necessity to not cling to things that are temporary, ie life and the universe.
>>
>>383282454
>>383282475
sounds like a massive waste of time
>>
>>383282613
Probably, but it's spiritual training.

I imagine those guys won't be smashing up their furniture and crying if their gameboy breaks.
>>
The actual disappointment isn't nearly as big as the years of impotent rage that followed. It's doubly embarrassing when you realize most people who are 'angry' at Spore have been less than 10 years old when it came out.
Personally, I was angrier at the retarded "only 3 installs" rule.
>>
>>383281937
Fucks like you weren't alive during Spore's development and have therefore not witnessed the torrents of promises and hype that ended up making it the No Man's Sky precursor that it was.

>“One of my goals for this whole thing has been to give somebody an awe-inspiring global view of reality, almost like a drug-induced epiphany with a computer. The kind of, "Oh, man, what if we were a molecule inside of a galaxy?" type thing. Can we transfer that experience -- that, I don't want to say drug-induced, but I guess it is, or almost theological meaning-of-life-type experience -- into an interactive computer game?"
>>
>>383282613
So's life
>>
>>383282779
No, fucks like you were too young to realize that all of that was just nonsense marketing speak with no real meaning behind it. What does any of that drivel have to do with making a good game that is fun to play?
>>
>>383280614
>Coca Cola
It was Dr. Pepper
>>
>>383283117
>No, fucks like you were too young to realize that all of that was just nonsense marketing speak with no real meaning behind it.
That quote was just one of the more insane examples of the hype. Of course they also made precise promises which they failed to keep.

In any case, your claim that people were basing their expectations on nothing but that E3 demo while "filling in the blanks" with wishful thinking is just a lie. The devs never shut up about all the YOU CAN DO ANYTHING shit that was supposed to make it into the game but ultimately didn't.
>>
Played a ton on my friends computer in middle school, love it
>>
>>383284154
Was it? Huh, I must be remembering it wrong then.
Still sucks ass to lock gameplay elements behind a soft drink, especially because those parts were mandatory for accessing locked parts of Galactic Adventures (not DLC, as in parts in the game that were locked unless your hero had cyborg parts).

You are a loon, people post that trailer all the time whining on about the contents and "what could have been."

Whether or not any of this is even true, hating something for what you believe it could have been and not what it is, is stupid.

Literally every game ever made has a list of features the developers wanted to implement but never did for whatever reason.

The space part had it's moments.
The evolution stages have too much of a hard transition, and end up just being fairly shitty and oversimplified versions of other games.

Nah, you're a retard. You can hate a game for what it is as well as hate it more because of what it was marketed as and wasn't.

Hating a game for not being what it was marketed as is not a legitimate reason to hate it you fucking sperg.

You hate the company that made it for that not the game itself. It's like when Todd talks up Bethesda games when it is pretty blatant he gets handed notes by the development team. The marketing team is not in charge of making the game. Spore might not be what it was advertised as being, but it isn't a bad game in spite of that.

>>383280424
It's an alright game, /v/ just hates it because it wasn't as good as it could have been which is sad but doesn't stop the game from being alright. The game sold really well and had many spinoffs, it's weird they never made a sequel.

Epic.
>>
>>383289195
It does since the quality of Spore was extremely shitty. The most fleshed out parts of what they promised us and showed us was extremely dumbed down and simplified causing the cell and beaSt stage to be awful yet the only actual good part of the game. The game was shit and the game that was promised looked way more fleshed out and better. It's alright to hate it for not being the better game that was shown and it's okay to hate the shit game with out knowing what thed game could have. So basically you're retarded and there is nothing more you can say with out repeating the same stupid shit and coming off as a tryhard troll.
>>
>>383286757
this seems like one of those threads where they would eventually go "THEY EVEN CUT OUT THE ENTIRE METROIDVANIA SECTION AND DIDN'T EVEN WORK ON THE MOBA PART"
>>
>>383290371
>It does since the quality of Spore was extremely shitty.
And as I already stated, if you hate the game because it is actually shitty that is fine. You can point to the flaws.

Hating the game because it isn't what you were promised and it is sub par is totally okay. Hating a game that is debateably okay because it was marketed as being different is irrational though.

Like, if they advertised Deus Ex as being a vastly different game and it ended up being what we got, would you hate it?
>>
>>383290750
>liking deus ex
it's good to see your retardation is consistent, at least.
>>
>>383290750
Of course you repeat your dumbass self. If they showed you a part of the game you thought you would really like and would add a lot to the game like the "Water creatures" you could make. Thathe was cut and you can be mad at that.

>>
>>383291319

I'm new to the argument here, but what about Brutal Legends? That games marketing didn't mention the fact that it had RTS elements at all. People thought it was an open world hack-n-slash or whatever. Would people be wrong in hating what the game turned out to be?

No. I've been checking in about once a year for 5 years now and the community is dwindling which means they'll be out of volunteer modders when the next one quits. They have a prototype for the cell stage I think, but I doubt that'll even get finished honestly.

Even worse
They locked it behind a Dr. Pepper promotion, and the servers for it have since shut down.
Meaning that even if you DID "earn" the parts, installed them, and used them, if you have changed machines you cannot reinstall them
Meaning your robotic monsters you made are unusable by you, if you have changed computers since then.
