Nothing happened with telltale, and that's the problem, they didn't improve their engine, or writing or formula. Every game after TWD season 1 has been the same shit. Meanwhile Life is Strange and Until Dawn have improved the telltale formula and shown us how much better it can be.

I really tried to like Sam and Max but they were so boring and their new style of games is just smoke and mirrors

I played S1 of The Walking Dead and I think that was the last time I touched a Telltale game. I've never played through Sam and Max and thought to myself "this would be a lot better without the lighthearted feel or puzzles".
