Do you realize how many games like Doom ect would run smoothly on 5-7 year old graphics cards if they just put effort into optimization? The #1 issue with linux drivers right now is that closed source drivers 'expire' very quickly and only work with specific kernel versions. No effort is made to ensure these drivers work with the next kernel version.
Next issue is that these closed source drivers often suck. AMDGPU-PRO (proprietary AMD driver) is actually slower than the open source AMDGPU and mesa stack that comes with most distros in non-Vulkan gaming.

depends on the model, but generally they're usually better maintained than stacy or chad's A to B machines you find on craigslist. I bought a Dodge Caravan with 400k on the clock and besides redoing the suspension bushings it's been fine ever since.

As for GPU's and most computer equipment its generally the caps that go first. Given that miners are turning those gpu's into heat pumps it could be a mixed bag. So long as they don't ask for retail prices, they should be a steal.
