Word of mouth is the sole reason why Persona 5 was so successful considering it's fucking shit. SEGA haven't really had success with the Yakuza games in the west which is garnered it a cult following. Also the label of Japanese GTA really turns people off which comes down to the shit marketing back in 2005 by SEGA.

I'd honestly believe it, OP.
I expected great things from Nier and it was "just good." The combat isn't nearly as deep as your regular platinum game, and the sidequests are rarely anything impressive mechanically. /V/ likes to shit on games focusing on the writing and story, but I feel that Nier is actually one of these games.
