Actually the game was designed for 8v8 play originally, and all playtesting was done in an 8v8 format.

Valve only expanded to 12v12 very late in development.

Besides, I don't give a shit how the game was "meant" to be played. If the game is fun and skillful competitively I'm going to take advantage of that. TF2 competitive is very fun.

That's not true. For starters, it forces Engineers to actually invest in a Dispenser (which costs a flat amount of Metal to build and costs time to build) instead of rushing a Level 3 straight away.

And if that Dispenser isn't upgraded to 3, it's not going to be a very efficient source of Metal either.

And even if the Engineer does do that, then Rescue Ranger will now make his Metal deplete much more quickly than it used to while turtling.

I'm always a fan of the builder class in games, and I feel he's done the best, needing scrap to build stuff instead of a cool down, a variety of things outside of just one sentry, can have a big impact on gameplay alone if given time, etc

Speed boost pads would be useful as fuck in 5CP, KOTH, and CTF.

Especially if they deployed quicker than regular teleporters so Engineer could spawn in 5CP, place the speed pad down and build it while his team was running to mid, and then once he got it set up, use the speed boost to catch up to the Medic. .

I'll remind you that Sandman has the fastest projectile in the game. And it only takes a fraction of a second to kill a stationary player in TF2. That's why Scout getting a weapon that locks someone almost totally in place and was easy to hit was broken and had to go.

Cramped maps are inherently shit. The only really cramped map I can even think of right now is Junction, which no one plays anyway, or Turbine, which is a CTF map and therefore inherently shit.

My point is that if you have to reload and your shit starts getting fucked, you haul it instantly. With 4 bolts, you likely wasted at least half an Uber if you placed your Sentry in a good spot. You instead say this like the Engie takes hours to react to his buildings taking damage. Even a Demo stacking stickies right on the base of a Sentry needs three stickies down to kill it. He can't afford to detonate them one by one because the Engie can just bolt heal it, and if the Engie knows this, he'll wait for the Demo to commit a few stickies down before hauling it and wasting the entire thing.

Wasting at least half an Uber makes up for however useless you may be right after. Also, good Engies often have good positioning and will just haul it to a favorable place where they can instantly deploy it. They don't need to carry it around if they can just hit M2 then M1 instantly and have their level 3 Sentry repositioned in 5 seconds. Anyone else trying to punish the Engie for doing that also doesn't have an easy time either because the Engie just crouches behind his Sentry, and he can heal the damage it takes as it is redeploying.

And nevermind the fact that someone COULD punish the Engie after hauling it. If you need three fucking people (the Medic that ubers, the ubered patient, and someone ready to fuck the Engie when he hauls his Sentry from across the area) to beat one class, there's something really wrong with the balance of it.

In fact, I always proposed that Valve should introduce a mechanic for making the RR incapable of hauling buildings from afar if it has taken damage in the last second. You want to counter the combo of a Medic ubering a patient, the Engie's team should also use teamwork and have a Pyro airblast the Uber away to allow the Engie to haul it if he wants to shit on the most game-changing mechanic of the game that hard.

Then this whole argument is fucking pointless. A match between Demo and Engie never exists on a vaccum, and I'm trying to argue for the situation you find in actual games. Going into a Sentry nest will always require an Uber because a) the Engie has a team, and b) the team going into the Sentry nest is the offensive team. They are taking a much higher risk by needing to throw themselves into the fire over the defending team that's guarding the nest just letting the others come to them. Before the RR, you needed at least a Pyro ready to basically sacrifice himself if he wanted to keep the nest alive. Or for the team to either kill or force an early Uber out of the offensive Medic so the Uber can't reach the Sentry nest in time.

RR reduces the amount of teamwork that a defending team needs if they want to keep a Sentry nest alive by a lot. Suddenly, it's not enough that the defending team couldn't pick out the Medic with a Sniper, a Spy, a Scout, a suicide Soldier, or anything like that. It's not enough that they couldn't even force the Uber before the offensive team had a chance to get close to the Sentry nest. It's not enough that maybe the offensive team had Uber advantage and avoided getting countered by an enemy Uber. Nope, just allow the Engie himself to heal the cornerstone of a defense from any distance and to instantly say "Fuck you" and move it to a much cozier place on demand, haha. Everyone else just needs to be enough of a distraction or to sit there ready to kill the Medic and his patient when their Uber runs out, forcing the game to go for at least 40 more seconds, worst case scenario.

I like that of all of TF2's classes Engi is the only one that counters nothing and is countered by everything except other Engis. Playing engineer is a fucking tedious joke given how easy even a single class can annihilate everything you build and max out, and Casual's 25+ second respawn times don't help this so Gibbus McPyrovision can trickstab you then leave your stuff defenseless for three days.

I'd love to see a building HP boost, a damage resistance buff, or maybe let you add extra scrap onto them to improve their health and durability. Or give all buildings minor passive repairs, so that even when you're dead they have some minor semblance of self-sufficiency.

sentry is designed to stop lone wolfs, rescue ranger doesn't stop pushes.

its like the deadringer at most where it lets the engineer escape with the gear but they aren't affecting you for a short period.

This nerf doesn't change that at all and it actually removes the skill and utility that it had for non turtling engineers.

Spies shouldn't even be getting close enough to you to backstab you. If this happens you need more situational awareness.
Once they hit M2, just follow the most obvious path you'd use to get away from the scene and spam shotty/rockets/bombs/whatever.
If you're playing pyro Dead ringer is hilariously easy to counter. Just airlock him and keep m1 pressed down lmao

This sounds like you are trying to say Spies should be completely useless in any situation. As if good Spies don't know how to time their decloak and approach to you while you are distracted with something more important.

So nothing, because again, Spy gets damage resistance and a speed boost that makes nearly every class incapable of chasing.

Airlock him how? Unless you can airblast him into a wall, the airblast is just going to push him further away from you and make it easier for him to get away from you.

To be honest, it does have a problem. Unless you are going to run it literally 100% of time, you will find yourself making small, but painful mistakes here and there, because rocket is being shot from middle of screen when you use Original and from right/left with all other lawnchairs.
This messes up rocket jumps, makes difference when fighting around corners and so on. It's like sitting on new bicycle.

You're giving up the shotgun and making your vulnerable. The Rescue Ranger has ammo and a reduced heal rate. It can't knock off sappers. It allows the engineer to be more mobile and to be creative with sentry and dispenser placements. Why should it take ammo and metal?

What he probably meant to say is, that it doesn't change anything about what Valve says they perceived as a problem; which is sitting on your dispenser, away from the sentry, and spamming fixing darts.
It instead punishes aggressive sentry placement, when was that a problem? It's effectively just lowering engi's skill cap.

Same kind of "fix" as
