Let's show some love for this $4/€4 master piece.
How often can you get a love/hate relationship with your enemy?

I liked the game and even reinstalled it to get my nemesis and follower ready for the sequel but it's far from a masterpiece. Even the sequel seems to still have the sticky movement/parkour system and easy as fuck combat just from watching the gameplay videos. I hope the nemesis shit really is as expansive as the videos seem to suggest and we get plenty of regions to explore and fuck around in.

Would be best if they removed focus from doing combat yourself and pushed everything towards commanding your boys. Maybe jump in every once in a while for a cheeky backstab.

They updated the game this week with a new game mode called Nemesis Forge. You can take your most used Follower and most-died-to Nemesis into the next game. I'm trying to create a 'the Raven' Berserker for it, but it's rough going.

Nemesis Forge update. A new game mode was added that allows you to select your own nemesis and most loyal follower in your SoM save game that can be carried into SoW.

Played it ages ago, tried it again on the free weekend yesterday. I don't know why people were so amazed by this game. Maybe its because I played two Arkham games back to back then played this, but it feels so god damn boring to fight enemies and the world is nothing special design-wise.

Doubt it. It seems there's no need to stay out of combat yourself but the option is there. The game just seems easier than ever considering you have even more options to take Orcs the fuck down. You get chain stealth takedowns, slow mo mid-air arrow shots, wraith stun that fucking freezes enemies and the wraith burn actually incinerating people. This is on top of the Shadow Brand, mass brand and other shit added in the Bright Lord DLC.

The only upside is that it seems the enemies are pretty tough for your party to take down on their own so you're gonna need to move around a lot if you want to make sure your captains and chiefs survive a fight.

True. The curse ability is something I hope will be a real threat and I'm interested in the machine tribe's abilities and what the fuck they're capable of. Still, watching these streamers and journos playing like complete fucks and still emerging victorious just has me doubtful. Still, SoW on Steam is pretty fucking cheap compared to other new releases in my country so I've no qualms with getting it on release.
>>
I loved the game before it gets piss easy with all the upgrades you get. Also, everything felt a lot emptier when I finally killed my longtime nemesis. No one else came close to the rivalry I had with him, I remember the last mission having some pleb I'd barely fought, but he was the best of who was still alive.

I'll probably replay it at some point to carry some people over of worth, but I probably wont buy the new one until it's going for cheap as wellunless you can import offline, in which case I'll just pirate it

>your own nemesis
What's the fucking point? I think I died a total of like, once, throughout the entire game. The whole 'rivalry' thing falls pretty flat considering taking down even the Warchiefs is a walk in the park - like what the fuck is your 'nemesis' going to do? Show up one day only to get easily killed like the rest of the dogshit chiefs for a bit of XP and a dunce rune?

The first Morder was so close to being a really good game, but every cool and inventive idea is hamstrung by the braindead easy not!AssCreed game it's tacked on to

Oh it's definitely gonna be shitty bamham combat again. I'm also worried because the animations don't seem to have the same impact in SoW that they did in SoM. I don't even know why since they're the same fucking takedown animations but something about them just feels... off. Maybe it's the sound being fucked with since it's videos and on stream but still cause for worry.

>>383253156
No idea. They did mention that your own personal nemesis in SoW will play a bigger role than just appearing again and again and finally appear in one mission only to be taken down like a bitch so maybe they have something set up for it. They said the same about your followers too. Then, they released this nemesis forge shit so I'm interested in what they've got in mind. I hope I'm not disappointed.
>>
>>383251582
this game was boring and easy as hell even on the most difficult settings. I hate counter buttons like in example assassins creed series. Where a big icon pops up. Even removing it, it is easy to just spam it. Else combat in that game was boring

+ Nemesis System is genuinely cool and innovative
+ World is fun to traverse
+ Combat lays good groundwork
+ First boss is great
+ Screenshot mode is the best of its kind
- It's easy to the point where it feels genuinely insulting
- Monsters aren't really fun to fight
- It's too easy
- Awful bosses after the first
- It's way too easy
- Game world is a little too big for its own good
- It's stupidly easy
>>
I tried it for a little bit and honestly it isn't that great

I mean I get that it has this new system and all but it abuses a little bit of the good old collectathon system that pretty much half of them AAA titles have these days. And the combat at the beginning suffers from batmanitis. It is worth that money for sure, but I'm not going to buy it.

I won't lie, you'll only really start having fun when you, at least, unlock shit like Shadow Strike. Things will start becoming absolutely fun when you get the domination and brand abilities which happens in the second fucking region. It's a chore, I know, and I don't blame people for giving up on it or not finding the core combat mechanics very fun since they really aren't. They're merely serviceable and decent but so safe and unimaginative.
>>
>>383252318

What even is the nemesis system? I've been playing for like 6 hours and have no idea what it is, is it past killing the 4 warchiefs?
>>
>>383254129
You kill a dude, the game brings him back and teleports him near you for a "hey its that guy" thing and also gives him immunities so he isn't a push over. Then he is still a push over. Its a very overblown mechanic that people thing is the greatest shit ever

Your nemesis isn't following you around the map, you can't just find him. He just shows up out of nowhere sometimes.
>>
>>383254129
well you kill a warchief they come back stronger
and when they kill you they become stronger as well
very rarely will one perma-die
this leads to semi-random rivalries forming where certain warchiefs give you a muh harder time than any others, via what is essentially natural selection since the new traits the warchiefs get are random and only the traits your personal playstyle is weak against will meet the most success

its all about that rush of emotion when, in the middle of an unrelated quest, this asshole who you've killed three times and who has killed you four times comes riding over the sunset hills like the ugly sibling of Erol Flynn challenging you to a duel

Fuck this abomination, Chris Tolkien should sue them.
>>
>>383254356

That shit sounds gay.

I do like that when you die and fight the same orc later they say weird shit like, "Are you his twin?" and "You should have stayed dead."
>>
>>383254129
All the orcs you kill get personality's and such, such as ones who act all friendly towards you, or ones that don't even speak and just growl at you. There's more, such as ones who are suppose to be random grunts who you fucked up, and they're disfigured in some way. Some of them can survive your encounter with them even if you kill them, having a big scar on their face and different dialogue.

Some people have little story's with them. Like that angry Joe guy had some big dumb brute with great traits who fucked him up constantly, or for me I had this one chubby fucker who always managed to escape from me whenever I fought him, and made it to the end of the game.

2MB, 3840x2160px
>>383254129
It's the whole Orc army shit. The Orcs you see in the army screen are all 'procedurally generated' based on traits that are either natural to them or are gained due to you fucking them up and the RNG deciding that they didn't permanently die from the encounter. You could end up with all sorts of shit like a Warchief getting decapitated and returning with a mangled up head in a bag, becoming crazy and just runs around the world chasing your ass, shit like that. It's pretty neat but, up to a certain point, you'll end up having seen most of what it has to offer. It's a neat gimmick that was executed nicely enough to be enjoyable. The sequel has the system taking into account other shit like tribes, rivalries, loyalties and even tendency to betray their own in order to affect more shit like betraying their own superiors in order to rise up the ranks, fortresses and regions having different aesthetics depending on the tribe, species and preferences of the overlord and warchiefs in them, past encounters with you or your army, and other shit.
>>
Honestly one of this games biggest flaws was the fact it get too easy far to fast.

I'm hoping they'll fix that in shadow of war but I have my doubts.
>>
>>383254850
Its Batman, so you likely start the game with the takedowns with B/Y, A/X etc which is why those games are so easy. You just go around insta-killing people. That and you are meant to just counter people so its not really satisfying to fight.
>>
>>383254993
>Its Batman
*AssCreed
>>
>>383255139
*PrinceOfPersia
>>
>>383255139
There is AssCreed in the game, but the combat is Batman. AssCreed doesn't have the flying back and forth stuff, and neither does it have the takedowns or requiring RT+X to finish people.
>>
>>383255236
>AssCreed doesn't have the flying back and forth stuff
it absolutely does, even in the first game
>>
Does it really have Arkham combat? That'd be a bummer.
>>
>>383255296
You will not fly 30 feet to hit a guy one time, then fly back another 30 feet to hit the other guy. You do have a "surrounded and can target freely" type combat but absolutely nothing like Batman. Sleeping Dogs doesn't feel anything like Batman or AssCreed but it also invokes the same style of combat when your surrounded and you go between enemies.

>>383255410
The first game has a free weekend right now till sometime Monday, 42gb go try it. The second game isn't going to be much different combat-wise.
>>
>>383255539
>You will not fly 30 feet to hit a guy one time
no, you will 'merely' fly 17 feet
>>
>>383255296
AssCreed lets you slide some distance for your attacks but it's not as much as bamham, where your slide distance starts at half the screen, then slowly bumps up to the entire width of the room as your combo increases.

>>
>>383255539
SD's combat only feels sorta Batman-ish due to the soft auto-target. The rest of it is much closer to older action games where your combos are various numbers of light attacks ending with a strong attack.

I miss those combat systems. The PS2/Xbox LOTR games had a fantastic one where you had a light attack, a strong attack, a low damage shove, and a finisher downstab, and there were all kinds of preset combos with various situational effects. Eg light, shove, downstab to smack a guy, shove him to the ground and immediately follow up with a very smooth finisher stab to the chest that looks good even when you're playing the hobbits.

This. It was pretty bad. The worst thing I remember was that the game had zero concept of proper balance. It would make a warchief that was immune to literally everything, and then surround him with 20 enemies that were also immune to 90% of your attacks. Then when you weren't running into situations like that it was far to easy to cheese. The video of that guy pressing a single button to win is very true.
>>
What is the appeal of the nemesis system? I got tired of it when by engaging a group of orcs i now have to spend 3 minutes listening to a bunch of jobbers how they will get me this time which constantly interrupts already low to mediocre combat.
