There's no interest nowadays for arcade-style racers unless you have a cool gimmick, or can tap into the Fast and Furious fans.

In terms of racing games the xbox shits all over the ps4.
Since release of the boner there were:
>Forza 5, rushed to finish it for console release yet still better than waiting 12 years for polyphony to make a racing game
>Forza 6, best of the mainseries until 7 releases
>Forza Horizon 2, improved upon the first
>Forza Horizon 3, best arcade racer to date. nothing comes close.
>Forza 7 about to be released in 3 months

on top of all that you get the multiplats like asseto corsa and project cars or arcade games like nfs and the crew.

I use mostly steam and have only used winstore for forza horizon 3 but come on, most multiplayer games that are also on the winstore get their fuckin playerbase cut in 80% or more since you are limited to those who use the same platform and then there is the problem with game performance and microsoft techniques of drm, which literally check your files every second and use up your cpu cores leading to stuttering and shit.
I know that horizon 3 is mostly fixed now but come on it was shit on launch.

This is why I'm an idort. PS4 doesn't have good racing games. Best thing on it is the Wipeout collection. Motorsports and Horizon are the pinnacle of their genre. I even have Burnout Paradise on Xbox to satisfy heavy arcade style.

I unironically liked The Crew. It was inferior to Horizon 2 and then Horizon 3 came out and really there was no point.

The thing is tho, and why I'm excited a bit for The Crew 2, is Ubisoft somehow can make awesome open worlds for car games. The Crew had a FUCK HUGE map of America that was comfy as fuck to drive through and I'm hoping The Crew 2 follows that same map size. Honestly it looks fun and it has boats and planes to make it different from Horizon.

I'm not expecting much, but I personally will probably get The Crew 2.

Unlike everyone else in this thread i will recommend Driveclub for its godlike carfeel.
Also in general Driveclub is a great game all around with a ton of content.
Gran turismo sport is also right around the corner.

Every need for speed game sucks right now.
Project cars is fucking boring as hell, especially the single player campaign where you need to drive go karts for 2 hours or so until you are able to to drive actual cars.
wipeout collection is pretty good but it is not everyone's cup of tea.
Driveclub sucks
GT auto sport might be good but i ain't holding my breath after the disaster that was gt6
