mods, they don't even affected achievements, mod the game so gameplay is fun for you. its a SP game, do what you want.
>>
I want to make a custom skin for the abomination. Give me ideas dudes.
>>
I barely had any deaths on my 2nd run, I have like 10 fags in the graveyard and everyone is at level 3 4 and 5.

There's some RNG with criticals but if you have a plan B and know when to quit a mission instead of sending your guys to their deaths you cut out a lot of the so called "grind"
>>
>>383246898
The game was already enjoyable, and already too easy to abuse tons of stuff like blight.
>>
My main problem isn't the RNG, as it can fuck you over just as much as it can make runs effortless, its the fact that if the RNG does decide to fuck you over the grind to get you back to where you were is a bit too much.
>>
Is there a mod that replaces the arbalest with a human?
>>
>>383249475
yes check nexus, top files
>>
Is OP memeing? Don't get any Dark Souls vibes other than sometimes it's sort of hard. Really liking this game, it's the first dungeon crawler I've ever really played so the start was rocky for sure but once I start putting some thought into things it really started getting enjoyable. I love the idea that not every character is a superhero, really makes it a big deal when they do something good like positive resolve checks.
>>
>>383249475

I'm pretty sure there a lot of Arbalest mods at the nexus.
>>
>>383249458
Not really, once you upgrade your shit you can spawn level 1 and 2 characters and just do 3 short missions to get exactly where you were.

You need the suspense of losing something to make the big victories really matter.
>>
this isn't final fantasy, your guys are supposed to get killed
>>
>>383249538
Didn't you know X-COM was inspired by Dark Souls II?
>>
>>383249639

This, once you realize that your dudes are disposable meat, you'll easily get over the loss of them dying. It's also not that long to grind them from say lv2 to 5 anyway. I sometimes even start kicking some lv4s to make room for some noobs just to keep getting apprentice level dungeons.
>>
>>383249726
Nope, I don't frequent /v/ alot so most of the memes are lost on me. Frequented here even less when Dark Souls II was released.
>>
>>383247501
How? I can't remember anything being too much to comprehend in Souls.
>>
>>383249586
I understand there has to be some sort of punishment and suspense to make losses actually mean something, and I really like that there's no game over so that losing your level 6 guys won't mean you will never be able to win the game and just spiral into a slow defeat like in XCOM, but with no guarantee that high level heores will come even if a fully upgraded stagecoach, or even the hero classes you lost that you need back, coupled with high level characters refusing to go into lower level dungeons does seem like biting back at the player a little too hard.

I understand not wanting the player to bring in a full party of level 6 dudes to completely demolish a boss, but I doubt those dudes that almost saw death and madness wouldn't relish the chance of doing a less hard dungeon for a while so they don't get pushed over the edge. Perhaps a boss only level restriction would alleviate this.
>>
>>383247501
Elaborate. Dark Souls seems to be inspired much more by generic western fantasy, I don't recall any Lovecraftian themes in it at all. Bloodborne on the other hand was blatantly inspired by Lovecraft. You could argue that DS3 has a few in it but that's only because it seemed like some Bloodborne bled into it during development.
>>
There any way to get Darkest Dungeon running on a toaster? Shit won't even open for me.

I really find this annoying. The game would have run just as well with Final-Fantasy-6-tier graphics--but NO, the developers had to add all this totally-unnecessary fancy animation and fucking LIGHTING EFFECTS in a 2D GAME!

Also, fuck that meme narrator. I got tired of his repetitive lines while I was still watching YouTube videos, and took enormous pleasure in disabling him as soon as I bought the game. How much money would the developers have saved if they hadn't included him?

What are some good team compositions?
Just started playing after I bought the game from the summer sale and I haven't recruited all the heroes yet, but I've mostly been using these:
1st position: Man-at-Arms/Leper
2nd position: Crusader/Bounty Hunter
3rd position: Jester/Plague Doctor
4th position: Occultist/Vestal
depending on who's available, but my main team are the first choice.

Been doing good so far (only my vestal died because she got rushed by a 4 spider surprise attack), managed to kill the first boss in the ruins, and I'm slowly grinding to at least upgrade my equipment and abilities to level 2 before challenging the next boss.

I have a computer good enough to run it. I only noticed the pathetic performance when my main computer's processor died and I tried to play the game on my mother's ancient laptop.
>>
>>383251142
Its better if you dont ask because once you got stuff figured out the game has nothing to give you since the gameplay is 1/10.
>>
>>383251194
I plan on a ton of easy mode mods to 100% the game too
>>
>>383250747
But Darkest Dungeon is a rollplaying game.

>>383251284

>>
Any other good/mandatory mods for the game?
So far I've only been using the increase stacking size of the loot you find in the dungeons because I feel the vanilla one is just designed to unnecessarily prolong the grind by forcing you to drop the excess upgrading materials once your inventory is full.
>>
>>383251683

He's for stacking blight. It eats those armored crabs alive. And for CC with the stun. And if you feel you're lacking some direct damage he still can transform and perform as a melee frontliner from position 2. I guess does not compare to Leper in terms of sheer raw damage after all, but then if he did, Leper would be useless, since he has zero utility.

I like Arbalest; can mark targets, obv good for taking out backline, can pull off some decent heals, suppressing fire is a nice 3 person acc debuff, CAN CLEAR MARK, and blindfire can get her to sanic speeds.

>>383255189

I just realized something, turns are COMPLETELY random, I know i smelled something bad on this game but I didn't knew exactly what.

>none of me characters had a spd debuff
>none of them were stunned
>they hadn't been surprised
>entire enemy team takes TWO FUCKING CONSECUTIVE TURNS
>they all target the same character

What the fuck is wrong with these developers?
>>
Do enemies get higher than 100% accuracy on veteran/champion quests? Or does the heroes' dodge represent the actual evade chance? Because I can potentially stack it up to 60 and above.
>>
It's a dungeon crawler, not an RPG
>>
>>383256926
>entire enemy team takes TWO FUCKING CONSECUTIVE TURNS
Only happens if they're surprised and all go before your characters the next turn. And if they're surprised, you only have yourself to blame for not wiping them out first.
Also
>its only fair if only I get to focus down an enemy but the enemies can't do the same!

>>383256926
>During each turn, each unit is assigned a random number ranging from 1 to 8, to which its SPD value is added; the order that the participants to the battle will follow to take their actions will be determined by these values, with the highest acting first.

You're welcome

>>383256992
Each enemy's base accuracy and scaling is different, I'd imagine some get above 100%. Most don't though to my knowledge
>>
>GREAT IS THE NIGGER THAT STEALS ON IT'S OWN

Wtf Raimi?
>>
>>383256926
Character turn order is determined by SPD+1d8.
So for what you said to happen, you'd have to have roughly similar speed to your opponents. Round One they lowrolled and all went last in the initiative, you didn't kill any of them in Round One, then Round Two they highrolled their speed check, all went first in the second round, and creamed your guy.

This often happens when you surprise the enemies. Surprised enemies act last on the first turn, and on the next one they're back to their default speed.

>>383256926
They're done with speed +2d6 IIRC.

In practice this means basically complete RNG.

Oh yes sure of course because that's entirely logical when their HP at easy dungeons is 10 and your character's damage need set ups or crits to reach that.

Go fuck yourself, seeing one of your characters going from full HP to zero HP without being able to do anything, and for an entirely random reason is the WORST design decision a developer can do on those types of games.

Favorite class?

Bounty hunter here.
Extremely strong attack if enemy is marked. Combine that with +25% damage against size 2 enemies and trinkets and bosses just melt.
Can hook the back line to help you melees or stun them and shuffle them around.
Only downside is that he has no heal/stress reduction and is pretty weak against move/stun resist comps or range-heavy comps.

If you want normie friendly crusader then probably defaulting him to 3rd position and having something like houndmaster/graverobber/highwayman aka. characters that are good from 2/3 so shuffle doesn't impact you negatively. >not from the front line
Front line characters usefulness surpasses simply hitting the ones in the back. Your point is moot.
>You expect to be double stunning the entire fight?
It's far more useful to be able to kill an enemy quickly than it is to try and stun him thanks to how turns work on this game.
>One turn exchange for 2 enemy turns is really powerful, even if it is every two turns.
In 4 turns an enemy that's dangerous enough to warrant being stunned can be focused and killed, not only that several classes can do this while also damaging the other enemies, stunning is simply not worth it.
>That's why you don't always bring the hellion
That's why you don't, period, enemies that are protected can still be stunned by other characters with more usefulness than "hit hard once and becomes useless for the rest of the fight".
>This game is about recognizing what the strengths are of regions/bosses/comps and act accordingly.
This game is about dealing with ONE single enemy, the RNG, how well you will do depends on the random number of items you find, the random damage you deal, the random turn order, the random characters that appear with the random skills unlocked. The single way to play this game well is to rely on things that are accurate, such as using curios with items or picking characters that don't rely on chance to hit, defend and heal.

>Front line characters usefulness surpasses simply hitting the ones in the back. Your point is moot.
It's one of the aspects that a front liner can have. In a situation where you need to hit the back line then the Hellion is superior to other front liners.
>It's far more useful to be able to kill an enemy quickly than it is to try and stun him thanks to how turns work on this game.
Have you ever even gotten past a veteran dungeon?
Reducing two enemies from acting(adding stress/hitting you) is very powerful.
Killing one enemy quickly means that three enemies now hit you in turn one.
If you stun two you reduce that to two enemies acting, usually being able to pick off one ranged by your back liners so usually only one enemy will be able to act in turn one.
If you simply go for damage without looking at CC or other means of damage reduction you will die.
>In 4 turns an enemy that's dangerous enough to warrant being stunned can be focused and killed, not only that several classes can do this while also damaging the other enemies, stunning is simply not worth it.
What does this even mean?
In 4 turns that enemy will have decimated your party.
>That's why you don't, period, enemies that are protected can still be stunned by other characters with more usefulness than "hit hard once and becomes useless for the rest of the fight".
Other front liners can't kill that stress caster or ranged damage dealer that the Hellion can.
They also can't double stun.
>This game is about dealing with ONE single enemy,
No, it's not. The game is about dealing with one enemy while making sure their party doesn't do whatever they want.
If you only focus on damage you simply get killed/outstressed. It's about maximizing damage, bringing the right comp to be able to hit the stronger enemies in a region and preventing the enemy from acting or using their best abilities.

Same as not "understanding" Lovecraft isn't an argument.

Lovecraft's stories tell of events, phenomenon or beings that transcend the human cognition, and each reader is free to interpret most stories' meanings freely, so there's not an objectively right way to process what you read.

And the abyss does is Lovecraftian, since no one understands it, and those who come in contact with it end up crazed, cursed, or mutated, sometimes the three at the same time.

tl;dr. You're wrong, and still a faggot

>>
>>383261393
It's enough.
Your vestal will come into her own when you get her some trinkets and level her up, she is also the only character capable of party healing which can be invaluable.
The only other proper healer you get is the occultist who has a strong single heal but it can heal for 0 and always has a bleed chance.
>>
>>383261592
What do you mean how? You play him as you want. If you want him to be in your shuffler team, you pick his shuffle skills. If you want him to be support/bleeder you pick those.
>>
>>383258239
Hound Master for the Guard Dog.
Literally a broken ability. Waiting for Red Hook to nerf it.
Arbalest for the crits.
>>
>>383261393

Well, its depends. You don't use a vestal for big heals, but consistent heals. She is also very useful as a buffer and a stunner. Don't discount the power of stunning enemies, sometimes it is better than killing them.

The occultist is your other main healer. He can heal for a fuck ton of damage, 40 something if he crits, or he can heal for 0 - 2. And when he heals, he gives your character a bleed (they can resist, but its one more check you have to have). He is also a good debuffer and can do damage to all lines.

Then you have characters like Arbalest that can do emergency healing in a pinch, stop bleeding, and remove enemy marks on your party (Very Powerful, especially in boss fights) while also doing damage from nearly every position.

Some classes, like crusader and flaggelant, can also self heal, making them strong in some situations.

He's pretty bullshit for first time players or those that don't know his gimmick beforehand.
First thing a decent first-time player would think is that his summon just immobilizes the first position. Then they realize that the boss heals every turn as long as someone is anchored. Then it would be that their party position will always get fucked if they don't dodge the anchor. And then they see that the summon not only has 50% prot once he's summoned, he also gets fully healed after anchoring someone and transfers that prot bonus to the boss.
You can always run and prepare better for next time, though.
