Eh, I think it'll end up like DNF. The shitstorm will be very brief, dampened by years of "oh that game will never come out, and if it does, it'll be shit". Even any controveries PR people will try to stir up will seem half-hearted.
It'll then be half-forgotten, some people will champion it as being "actually pretty adequate for what it is" and at some point it'll all even out to a bored average assessment.
