When people push 4-5k in Susan EX, is this the number obtained after the ENTIRE fight (taking into account the 30 second down time in the sword phase)?
I've never seen anyone do more than 3.3k thanks to that part dragging the dps down. I've done 4.5k in the first phase but it just drops to around 3k at the end. How do you correctly measure dps in fights with downtime?
But at the end of the day is fflogs even reliable? Assuming the fight goes as smoothly as possible, with every mechanic dodging you and every party member playing around you, I don't see it being any different from fighting a training dummy

I can maintain 4k on i305 Monk without any EX Primal equipment on O1/2 since they're basically just training dummies once you grasp the mechanics. O1 a little less so since there's a bit of slidey going on and you can't always predict your party's bullshit.

The easiest fix is to just make Weakness/Brink of Death a net Damage/Healing down debuff. That way there's no fucking around with main stats, tanks can go back to the vastly superior 0.45 VIT/0.45 STR scaling that we had from 3.2 onwards, and repeated deaths still come with a severe punishment.

Clearing an SSS dummy proves that you only have the ability to put out enough DPS to meet an arbitrary check that has no bearing on a fight at all. The amount of target dummy fights in XIV's end-game is vastly outnumbered by mechanics dances, so it doesn't matter how much DPS you can output over X minutes if you're dead for half that time.

4k as a general rule makes you a god, but a good number of classes struggle to hit that high whether it's because they're mediocre (SMN) or because they're based around providing raid utility (NIN, BRD). Anybody who says otherwise is just trying to look cool or thinks their dummy parse is an accurate representation of anything.

Nobody takes the '4k or bust' shit seriously, that's just a good baseline of what you could be doing with fairly ideal circumstances and playing correctly, so you know that if you're falling well short of that in content others are excelling in, you need to look at your performance and find out why. The answer isn't always 'I played shitty' - sometimes it is 'this run treated me poorly by giving me every other targeted mechanic that made me drop dps' or that your job just isn't very good/well suited for current content (MCH/DRG).

On a boss, no. You want to read your DPS and know how much threat you can put out outside of your tank stance to determine how much of a lead you need to make at the start. If your gear's not great, some good DPS will push you to the point that you shouldn't leave Grit at all, but in general most DPS aren't that proficient, so establishing a lead and dropping Grit should be fine/ideal.

Jump potion sprouts. I really think Hall of Novice should be mandatory and in order to unlock Duty Finder, you have to clear the final trial. Standing in cleaves should have a 0/3 system. 3/3 and you have to restart. Also, have it unlock when you unlock inns and leves. Maybe at lv10 or so. cleared susan ex last night. surprised i was able to clear it with some friends through DF in like 3 hours or so? very easy fight to get down. how does Lakshmi Ex compare to susan ex?

I wish I could have shown you all that Emanation run. I am still shaking. It wasn't even EX. It was normal. It was just that bad. It was the worst run in recorded history. You ever thought a run could be carried by one player alone. That run was your answer. I had never played it as a Red Mage before. I had a Tank, both healers and one two other DPS on brink of death before it was through. I was the one Dual cast raising every single other player as they were dying. I was keeping myself and the tank healed whilst all the raising was going on. I had to LB3 (Lakshmi was at 17% after the LB, and there were so little of us alive at that point that it took long enough for me to earn another LB before she died, which I also was the only one alive to use.)

Never before have I played a trial where I was the primary damage dealer, the primary healer and the primary raiser. About all I didn't do was tank, but that was because I had diversion and lucid dreaming up at all times.

I didn't get a single commendation for my effort.
