I'm worried about that as well. Shit's a waste if every major game doesn't have it. 3D audio is fantastic.

I can hear every groan of metal in Horizon. Birds singing and insects chirping. The chittering of Watchers and Longlegs. Shit's dope.

I never even noticed the nature sounds before. If this fucker breaks in two months I'll be choked.
>>
>>383218463
The mic is probably built in like it is for the Gold so that it doesn't protrude. If the Gold quality is anything to go by, the mic is just passable really, not all that amazing.
>>
>>383218463
I think you connect a wire to the controller and use that. Doesn't look like there's a mic that pulls out.

3D audio only really matters if you have a PSVR headset since all of those games are required to support it and the only normal game that matters right now with support for it is Horizon. Just get the A50s unless you only want a headset specifically just for the PS4 or are obsessed with the 3D audio gimmick that lacks support. The Platinums also lack good bass response as consequence of the gimmick.

After having two pairs of Golds over the years, they had terrible build quality and the plastic snapped after several months of use. Sound quality is top tier for the price range though, and the mic quality was awful.

Bought the Platinum as soon as it came out, and the metal band almost ensures that it wont snap like the golds, while the audio quality remains the same, and the mic got upgraded and is way better quality than the golds.

Definitely recommend buying these.

>not getting positional audio above or below
I am no expert on headphones or positional audio, but I have read that having multiple smaller drivers crammed into each enclosure wouldn't be as effective overall compared to two good drivers in 2 channel stereo. The drivers are crammed too close together to make any significant difference.
You'd likely be able to perceive sounds coming from above and below better on a cluster of drivers depending on how well the drivers are positioned. But this requires the game or application you are running to support whatever DSP technique is being used.
If you want to use said headphones as a daily driver and listen to music or hell even play games that are not supported then it will likely sound worse.

I am all for the idea if I can notice a significant difference in positioning elevation wise even if it were for a niche application like VR.

Had a listen to a friends $600 sennheisers (forgot the model) over Bluetooth they didn't sound bad even with active noise cancellation on. You can get better sound quality for far cheaper with wired headphones.
I did like the active noise cancellation on that pair though, would be perfect for dealing with certain ambient noises such as jet engine rumble in flight. Was surprised that it even muffled communication to a reasonable and noticeable extent.
>>
>>383220558
I have a psvr.

It will be very worth it soon. There's a lot of stuff in development, but they are still in progress on resolving core issues, like movement.

Resident evil and farpoint did movement pretty well, the gun controller they bundled with farpoint is the best gun controller for vr flat now and really adds a lot.

Statik was also INCREDIBLE, so really glad to see people nailing this stuff now.

It's going to be hot shit this time next year.
>>
>>383228137
how do you find the tracking and comfort with PSmove?
I haven't tried PSVR but I have had a Vive for a while now, hardware wise it is pretty damn good aside from the annoying stock head mounting system and the crappy tactile grip buttons on the wands.
The only major issue I have is with the shear quantity of shovelware and lack of quality control on steam, few interesting games here and there but nothing I would commit a significant amount of time into just yet.

Can't wait for the new knuckle controllers with finger tracking, and a decent lineup of titles.
Mostly fire it up once in a while to squeeze a few rounds down range in H3VR or demo it to people. Everyone I've shown it to has really enjoyed it so far.
I like what valve is doing with the steam Home beta currently.
>>
>>383229541
Move is fine. It's pretty much 1:1 and the only thing that screws with the tracking is if you get it behind something or move it out of the camera's view. Most people with tracking problems have dumb camera setups and act confused when it doesn't work as well as it should.

Good news is there are heavy rumors that they'll be launching revised move style controllers soon with sticks added, so games with full movement and the complex motion control can become standard.

I have pretty much given up on steam ever resolving the shovelware issue. I don't think they want to.
>>
>>383216391
I have the original PS3 Headset they launched back in 2011. That was after buying several Turthe Beaches that would just break.

I still use them 6 years later on the PS4.

I'm sure headphone technology has improved and the platinumsame must be amazing. But my headset still works just fine no issues. From the looks of it will last forever.
>>
>>383230048
>I have pretty much given up on steam ever resolving the shovelware issue
Which would be a damned shame considering how near damn flawless the Vive's tracking is.
I hear valve are working on 3 titles for steamVR. The Lab was pretty good, I don't have high hopes considering what a shit show TF2/Dota2/CSGO are but they clearly still have some talent left.
The price is the main barrier to entry, Oculus should have stuck to the 300~400 USD price point instead of going full retard with an HMD that is more complex to manufacture en-mass. PSVR is much closer to the sweetspot price wise.

I have a feeling PSVR jumped the gun too early even with the Pro model and worry that they will drop it like they have done with the vita and PSMove prior, but if the HMD can be reused with the PS5 and they can include the link box built in and allow for an optional second camera to be connected for improved tracking then they can reduce occlusion to a reasonable level when using hand tracking without much additional cost.
Scorpio might end up better fit for VR granted that they can manage to implement their own comparable low cost HMD. If they are expecting people to shell another 600~800USD for a rift they'd be out of their minds.

Sony already make their displays in house and have dealt with HMDs before the VR craze which is a huge boon. Doubt Microsoft would be able to compete in that space directly unless they make use of a third party, which is likely why they partnered with Oculus initially. If Oculus had kept to the 400USD price point they could have been competitive with PSVR which would be good for the consumer as it would have served to drive the prices down and add incentive to compete with a solid lineup of games for each platform.
>>
What does that headphone even do?
>>
Just get beyerdynamic instead of gamer bullshit
>>
>>383231878
There's definitely a reason I own a psvr and not a vive or occulus.

>I have a feeling PSVR jumped the gun too early even with the Pro model and worry that they will drop it like they have done with the vita and PSMove prior

They've already demonstrated more committment to this than either of those, and there's no reason the headset won't be forward compatible with the ps5 when that launches in like 18-24 months.

I think it'll be fairly safe.

I really doubt microsoft will jump into the VR game for at least 4 or 5 years at a minimum.

Their console business is floundering enough as is.
