The entire game is built around the idea that you're trading your life for your freedom.

The game is intentionally designed to have high replay value (via SOL system) so that even if you're maximum pleb and can't get through the game on a single run, redoing it isn't awful.

I like being able to have a 'get out of boss' free card for a handful of fights. I think the mechanic renders the dragon's power well and gives the player a realistic sense of the sacrifice it takes to use that power.
