What went oh so very wrong?

Played it way too safe with the design. Windflares and moving cover wasn't enough. New characters weren't as fun as the old crew but at least Baird and Cole Train are still alive. DeeBee's aren't as fun to fight in campaign and the Swarm designs and types just aren't as good as the Locust.

Best Gears Multi by far though.

Nothing, it's the best multiplayer shooter on consoles by far.

Microtransactions with some of the worst RNG I've ever seen. Competitive settings in MP is pretty fun though.

Multi is as good as three, though the maps are weaker.
Horde is a slog.
Campaign has had a weird tonal shift, kinda understandable but the characters are too quippy for gears.

My god yes. This quippy protag trend needs to die. They did it to Mass Effect Andromeda too. Act like your life is on the line not like youre having a water balloon fought.
