This isn't how this game worked though.
100% Critical Chance does mean it crits every time it's cast.
Crits were pretty important for several mechanics in that game too.

I liked it, but it quite shallow in everything but its
elaborate crafting system, complex combo mechanics and huge variety of spells as a result.
If you try it, go harder difficulties, or you might skip all that since most basic fireball would suffice.
