Because that would take time, effort, and talent, none of which are present in current conditions.

They're either on mobile, or are mobile-like. """Tycoon""" games are now all those clicker things.
>>
>>383144291
are you talking about tycoon-like games? because those still get made.

if you mean games that ended with the "tycoon" word. they still get made but for mobile now.
theyve become thing waiting games now. you build something and have to wait hours or even days for it to get completed. or speed up the build time by giving them jewgold.

3D modern tycoon games are objectively worse than 2D isometric counterparts. They sacrifice content and depth in return for eye candy.

Prove me wrong.

>>383144291
Because no one trademarked the name and it got flooded with crappy budget titles that no one liked (despite the idea being good).

All we need is another RCT2 with the sandbox artistic ability of Planet Coaster.

Since Planet Coaster is not an actual game but a park painter, it cannot dethrone the king.

RCT2 can create beautiful buildings, but it is a painstaking process that requires hacking. It's the one area that RCT2 failed in, and was unable to remedy with the very lame expansions that added hundreds of set pieces that essentially are all crap.

Maybe OpenRCT2 can fix this one day, but I doubt it will ever get this far. It helps with some built in tools and ability to switch out scenery, but the building process is still fundamentally a chore, and would take a large, ground-up overhaul.

Wow, they lifted the Cities: Skylines UI despite the fact that it's a fucking piece of horseshit? Bad development ideas...
>>
>>383144291

I've never played tycoon games before but I did stumble on some videos by a guy who seems to have a boner for them. He loosely compares RollerCoaster Tycoon World and Planet Coaster, with mixed feelings for both. Definitely didn't like Tycoon World though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8vltu1xLnU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XNqJW_8z58

The biggest barrier seems to be how much development time is spent optimising the frame rate and addressing performance issues. It feels like people expect too much graphically while still wanting larger and larger spaces, so all that time is wasted addressing cosmetics instead of ironing out the design elements. Then they have to pack on tons of DLC just to make up the financial loss since they usually release with severe delays.

It's mostly the same problems that affects development for most modern games, except worse since you're pursuing a much more niche market than shooters or F2P mobile games. It's also why I'm much more forgiving when it comes to indie games that look like shit, since they might have some good ideas behind the terrible pixel graphics.

The same thing goes for Cities Skylines (versus SC4).
>>

I'm dying for an isometric SC4 successor.

Real highway mods are too much of a pain in the ass to learn. And once I get one working, it's honestly not satisfying because I spend hours upon hours drudging through outdated tutorial trying to figure it out.

Yeah, that's why I never liked the RHW of SC4 all that much, the videos that the creators made shows that it takes an hour to lay out an intersection. C:S had too many problems that made it really unfun.
> zoning extremely unflexible
> roads free-form but no alignment tool to make them actually parallel
> buildings completely off-scale
> barely any music
> that terrible Twitter mascot
> broken mechanic involving hospitals and cemeteries
> creators basically relied on modders entirely, resulting in a game that is incredibly poorly optimized and buggy

I would like to see a proper sequel to Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Keep the isometric graphics, and even the midi tunes are cool for me.

Just make it more deep and not in a OTTD way, because that is just making it more like model trains while the core game is still lacking in challenge.

I think it could be done by a couple of guys wanting to make a game. Originally it was made by Chris Sawyer in Assembly and a other guy helped out with the graphics and maybe the music as well.

How hard it can be?

>>383156508

I think a major problem is that most off-the-shelf game engines are going to struggle with rendering areas after a certain size. The "solution" is just to create a custom engine that's optimised specifically for tycoon gameplay, but that's far easier said than done when you consider potential compatibility issues for different PC configurations.
>>
>>383156781
I see your point. These games are huge when it comes to the size of the map you pretty much have to keep in control. Making a custom engine would be the way to go.
>>
They still make it
