The entire gimmick of the Switch is having a tablet. And it's mindboggling because the Wii U...also has a tablet. But even more puzzling is that among all the gimmicks Nintendo has had motion controls has been one of the worst, touch screen/dual-screen of the DS has been the best. Wii U took the dual screen action of the DS and used it for a console. Switch brought back the shitting motion control gimmicks. Being able to use the tablet and the TV revolutionized many games especially in inventory and map management. And the Switch REMOVED that. It's a Wii U that CAN'T use both screens at once. Opting instead for motion controls which have largely done nothing but plague the industry since their inception.

The Wii U controller only works within range of the console. It's tied to home play in a relatively small space. The Switch has the console and the screen built into one unit, so you can take it anywhere, with built-in controllers that can easily be used for multiplayer.

The Switch didn't "bring back" any of the motion control stuff. That was still in place with the Wii U. It still used Wii Remotes, and the Gamepad also used motion control. Having an extra screen was a nice feature, but it wasn't valued much by customers for a home console.
