Enemies are more aggressive and the amount of ammo you can find changes depending on the difficulty.

The hardest difficulty available right away is very different than any difficulty below it. Most of the people who call this game shit believe so because they played below that difficulty. The rest are just shitposters.

The game has it's flaws, but they are nearly non existent in Nightmare. It is a true Doom game, and if you can't cut it in Nightmare, you wasted your money.

Why the fuck would I waste my time on hardest difficulty if all it changes is HP values and damage you take? Artificial difficulty is not challenge, it's just tedious. Unless difficulty changes enemy numbers or AI, there's no reason to play on anything but normal.

I believe you also get less stuff on glory kills overall, making them not that worthy unless you're really low on health and you're not surrounded by other enemies.
I can't tell exact numbers, just shallowly compared what I experienced with a few videos I watched of people paying lower difficulties.
Just remember: the hardest difficulty, Nightmare, is able to be selected even though it's red, it's Ultra-Nightmare the one that is unlocked after you beat the game, which is exactly the same but you can't die.

Did you not read the thread? There is no "artificial difficulty" in the game, the higher the difficulty, the less damage you can tank and the more aggressive and skillful the enemies are. If I recall correctly, you'll also get less ammo and health from pickups.

Nightmare is really weird. The beginning of the game is actually the hardest because your guns suck and you only having 100hp means you get 1-2 shotted by the basic enemies. Then as soon as you get upgrades it goes back to feeling like you're playing on normal. They did a pretty bad job with the difficulty in this game.

That's exactly what I would like. Save the most challenging enemy patterns and behaviors for higher difficulties as well as having more enemies to make it more hectic. Just trying to get hit less isn't anymore challenging and as >>383127262 said enemies doing more damage starts not mattering as soon as you upgrade health and shields.

Ultra-Violence if you want to die in three hits, Nightmare if you want to die in two hits. Never ever go for glory kills on Nightmare, the enemies will just shoot at you so that your invincibility frames will end right as their projectile is on top of you for unavoidable damage that will kill you 90% of the time.

HEH NICE TRY I have 500 fucking hours in this game, ive replayed it at least 7 times, and I have meticulously memorized the AI behavior through work in snapmap. Changing difficulties obviously changes the health and damage taken, but like a proper FPS that isn't just an arbitrary or meaningless challenge. It highlights how the game carefully manages the relavtively small demon count by making each one of them a challenge in of themselves instead of disposable shotgun fodder. Your shotgun spread only landing half of the total amount of bullets shot on a lower difficulty will take care of an imp, play on nightmare and you actually need to aim. It also raises the rate of fire and reaction times (a mancubus will instantly hit the floor if you try to come next to it on nightmare, but will give you a delayed reaction on hurt me plenty) supporting what I said earlier. So the pace at which enemies spawn in becomes an actual challenge instead of you finishing a wave, then literally waiting for the next one. Another example is the Pinky whos a pushover on anything other than nightmare. Not because his health is increased, but his AI is smarter and tries harder to target the player with the charge, and not let you get behind him with a turn attack that punishes you for standing behind him too long. And a Supershotgun blast to his ass wont blow him apart unless most of the bullet spread connects, which isn't something to consider on lower settings.

Of course, all of this balance is thrown off if you use the OP upgrades, but theres a great FPS in there somewhere. I dont know where the meme of difficulty not changing anything in DOOM started but its a lie from shitposters or people who are ignorant.

There's too many "not a coincidence" parts for all the cool ai to just be coincidence. In the level the Necropolis when you have the two keys and theres a fight with two Barons, I noticed every time I play it they split up in opposite directions so when I forget about the other one he'll pop out around a corner or behind me with one of those flying ground slams. I notice they try to do this other times but the other arenas theyre in arent mazey enough so it doesnt work the same. Usually Barons are in large open areas.

As with all modern FPS games, nothing but numbers. Enemies get buffed damage and health. How exciting. I don't know why they even bother. Normal is the only one worth playing because that's what the game was balanced for. A real Doom game would make the game more fun and fast paced on higher skill levels, this game just gets slower.

I noticed a bunch of different behaviors in imp while in groups that were really cool, like coordinating their shots so they will lead you in opposite directions, one loading a charging shot while other shoots a quick leading shot as you dodge the bigger one, one making you chase him so others will flank you, and a few others that left me "damn that was neat"
still don't know if intentional or half-intentional though, but it forced me to dispose of them as soon as possible because they could become a serious threat if left alone for some time

thats why this room is my favorite fight in the game, theres a making of documentary on youtube from noclip and one of the guys talks about the insane amount of animations that went into the game just for the imps. They can traverse fucking everything. This one time a Hell Knight was chasing me then I looked back and notice him naturally volt a chest high wall, just how fluid they all look is impressive to me. And then the mancubus will do a hilarious rocket jump to get his fat ass to higher surfaces, these are the kinds of things I dont see in many fps games.

Probably because they had the time and resources to rebuild the game various times and improve on it slowly. Thats why im worried we wont see a Doom 2 for a while, I literally just want more of the same but harder and expanded upon a bit. They dont even need the graphics to be better. Or like Doom: the Old Blood, just focus on the combat more and make it really challenging. But its been a year and I think TOB was announced a year after TNO so probably nuthins cumin....

Well even my 1060 render 120 FPS when unlocked. Your 1080 is definitely rendering over 144 FPS which will lead to your monitor skipping frames entirely = meaning stuttering.
Use the adaptative vsync and you should be fine. There's an option to show performance metrics, it should show a constant 144fps.

It changes enemy damage but to be honest the games easy as fuck especially once you add in armor and weapon upgrades. Just remember:
>plasma stun is your best friend
>shotguns have the fastest weapon switch and switching between gaus and ss will reload it instantly.
>save bfgs for bosses whoch you can use the slowdown menu ro abuse and kill them in one shot.
Most of the enemies have shit ai and are super exploitable like hell knights. If you simply jump from one platform to the next their jump animation will be so fucking slow you can just keep changing levels without having to worry about anything.
