Because this game is very good at making things be different from how they appear on face value to give you a different perspective on things. Or, you can take it as you see it and go from there. I recommend a different playthrough making different decisions / dialogue options, I was amazed at how much more there was in this game when I did that.

I found HoS to be really lacking in narrative. There wasn't nearly enough time with Olgierd to empathise with him nor was there much exploring of any of the great themes within the story of Fasut. The potential was great but I felt that they just squandered most of it whereas BoW was fantastic as it perfectly nailed what it was trying to be.

The Baron is a complete piece of shit. He has his reasons and motivations, and they're motivations that are, frankly, realistic. He's not ALWAYS a piece of shit to everyone (he's downright kind to the girl Ciri brings to the castle, and to kids in general) but the bit at the end where he tells his daughter she should come back, he made her room up just like it was and now everything can be just like it was...

I pitied the piece of shit, but he was still a piece of shit. Most people don't just beat their spouses just 'cause (some do, but they are the minority); they do it for a lot of different reasons. I really, really liked the Baron arc, because he was a good character: a shitty person who was genuinely both shitty and a person.
