Oblivion was much better for practical armour that would more or less function as armour. Half or more of the armour is Skyrim is badly designed and shows that the designers don't really understand how armour is supposed to work.

The idea behind the Fallout 3 plasma guns was that they were suppose to have been designed by the Enclave post war, a rushed miniaturized version of the huge clunky plasma "rifle" we see in 1 and 2.

Keep in mind that the laser rifle in 1 and 2 was made out of a converted sniper rifle too. I'm pretty sure energy weapons were always meant to be in their early stages pre-war.

Yeah, I know this is bait. But let's have a quick lesson, shall we with Dark Souls armor design on the left. Mmmk?

He can't breath out that helmet, there's no visor to lift or shift from his mouth, and I highly doubt he can see. His thighs seem to be unprotected, but that could just be because of the small image. His right arm, we'll call it his sword-arm, has a pathetic piece of leather. If you're going to have something on the sword-arm, it might as well be something that can actually deflect or protect you. That leather needs to be much thicker if it's going to help you, which if it does get thicker, it might be too difficult to effectively move the sword-arm. The weapon shown would most likely be held with two hands, making the shield redundant. On top of that, because he's wearing so much plate over his body, there'd be no reason to even use a shield. Plus, if there's plate involved, the sword would be a secondary weapon, his primary would be a pole-arm of sorts.

Lastly, a lot of people seem to think that armor would be rusty, dirty, or beaten. Quite the opposite, actually. Armor, especially plate, would be expensive and you would need to maintain it for there are no freebies after the first, if you are even given one to begin with. I will say though, as much as I hate Dark Souls 3, I do enjoy how most armors have the shield arm more protected, and even have daggers carried around the waist. Nice touch.

Osprey/the author seems to be using them all interchangably here. Also, for those curious: The vest you see on the rightmost indivual here is actually armor: Ichcahuipilli. It's a composite: interwoven layers of cotton and jute, like gambeson, which is soaked in mineral rich water and left to dry, which then had mineral growth inside to make it resistant to lacerations and being pierced.

The suits the other two are wearing are called Tlahuiztli, and were made of hide, cotton, and/or leather worn over ichcahuipilli underpadding.

"Tlaxcalan" here refers to Tlaxcala, which was a confederacy of city states that were enemies of the aztecs who the aztecs were in the process of conquering via a war of attrition when the spanish arrived. The Tlaxcalans intially beat the spanish, but spared them at the last minute to use against the aztecs.

I can't find the source at the moment but I read a breakdown on this litterally a few days ago.

tl;dr the official census mexico uses to track indigenous numbers is flawed because it only does it by language, so somebody genetically still like 90% native but doesn't speak nahua, for example, wouldn't be counted. I think the person cited CIA statistics for the country that did it more accurately and that's where the 30% figure comes from?

Anyways, but yeah, the spanish conquest wasn't really a complete, clean job, it was pretty patchwork and most of the actual conquerering was done by native groups being led/directed by the spanish, so there were still a lot of pockets or regions where even though to the spanish, they "owned" the territory, the actual people there and their cultural praticeses were basically unaffected and continued to this day.

I do hate how western developers stick so closely to Tolkein in medieval fantasy settings and never stray TOO far. I mean they'll change some stuff up around, usually something like Orcs being misunderstood dindus who are victims of racism instead of just a race of evil monsters, but they never really change the core races of humans orcs elves dwarves, ect. (Dwarves I'm actually surprised are still a ubiquitous "race" in fantasy settings in current year, when you consider they're a real thing that exists. I mean it's not like you could get away with having black people being their own non-human fantasy race, Redguards aside.)

Like Zelda has it's own fantasy races and they're pretty different but still totally work for the setting. Why can't other people do that?
