To answer your question, SCL is not good, don't even bother with it. Even the large selection of active skills doesn't offer much tactical depth due to almost all fights being easy as fuck even on Hard.

The combat is like that, but the party members are some of the blandest characters you'll ever find in RPGs beaten only by, possible, Drakensang vidya characters.

The game has a lot of campaigns, but the toolset is so limited in its functionality, that there's no point in playing any of them.

Always liked BG1 better than 2. It's just easier for me to relate to a low-level party, and just wandering in the wilds.

Define "new". If you count PoE, then PoE is still the best. If you mean without PoE, then I would say Expeditions: Viking. Despite the unpolished and buggy mess the game was on release, it has turned to be a solid roleplaying game with meaningful C&C and alternative ways of progress that are opened or closed to you based on how you've built your character.

I do, by the time they finished up with Wasteland 2 (with the whole free Director's Cut thing and patches) I thought it was pretty decent as their startup game. Torment also improved upon it somewhat, haven't played BTIV however, but I'm still mildly hyped about WL3 since they seem to be getting better over time. I can forgive the roughness of the first game since the world was ok, so long as they get better. A winter setting is something I definitely want to see, if they have a good snow system it'll be awesome.

That said though what the fuck to you expect from us at this point, is WL3 even in full production yet? I don't think there's anything real meat to discuss, the game is probably at least a year or more out (holidays 2018 maybe), no point in giving it much thought before there is at least a beta which I never touch for games like this anyway. I'm sure they'll deliver something, they've been consistent in that, but other games in OP's list are way more current.

What did they mean by this? Nice that they designed a Warhammer-style giant that will stuff you down his pants though, even if he won't make your char explode into gibs like big demihumans in BG. WRPGs need more wackiness and more risk-taking with the setting.

I'll buy it at full price if it's a solid improvement over W2, but I ain't preordering that shit either. The setting looks super fucking rad but I want to see some reviews and to know whether 1.0 is reasonably playable or it needs some patches. W2 was pretty damn fun but it needed a lot of patching and improvements. Which it did get, I mean, it's cool they did those and the DC and gave it to everyone for free, DC had a whole engine upgrade and anything. I have no complaints about their dedication to supporting it rather then dropping it after a few months. But 1.0 was still kind of rough.

It wasn't REALLY bad, I mean it didn't CTD or whatever for me, it was playable. But it was definitely rough, needed a lot of balancing, some engine work, script fixes (one or two of which did mess up progression if you were on that path IIRC), etc. Now a lot of the stuff was just plain polish, actually making the game better. But there was a fucking buttload of bug fixes too. Just take a look at all the patches and glance at some of the changes:

Granted, it was their very first game as a new dev after their KS, a lot of their processes were really rough, they had a brand new team, etc. I'm willing to accept that Game One version 1.0 is rougher, that's true at most devs throughout vidya history. And from another perspective it's good they went to the trouble to keep up. But I still want to see how WL3 turns out. We'll see what beta testers have to say about it when it actually gets that far I guess.

For the time no, it was awesome. I don't think the overall story quite measured up to something like Ultima, but they did the mix of puzzles, combat and so forth really well, everything had tons of solutions and shit. It was one of the better post-apoc worlds ever, lots of cool worldbuilding, also it was persistent world and that was very new/cutting edge back then. It being kinda rad was the entire reason anyone was at all hyped about a successor in the first place.

BUT IT'S STILL A FUCKING 1980s CRPG. I'm not sure any of them have aged that well objectively, even if I've nostalgia'd over replaying some since then. And the separate manual thing for plot/story is kind of clunky, even if you can sort of admire the lengths they went to working with the garbage hardware of that era.

Why do people hate PoE so much? It was a good game, there are a lot of things I would change, but otherwise it is a very good cRPG.
