The first entry was great, and even Wii wasn't even bad. Everything after that went to shit excluding the Luigi stand alone.

NSMB killed any kind of originality in Mario games. Almost every Mario spinoff was subsequently homogenized to have the same boring art style, and bland characters to "fit in" with Miyamoto's fuckin' cinematic Mario universe. First game was alright, but it got old afterwards.

This looks like a cell phone game. And if it recall correctly, it's only 720p on Wii U. How does it qualify as a triple A full price game? Especially from Nintendo?

Lazy, boring to look at 2D assets. Most enemies are just animated sprites, not actually 3D.

Mostly the awful bland aesthetic and how after the massive success of the first two the aesthetic sort of bled into everything else Mario. The games are also pretty safe and easy in design, DS is the only one to even have original bosses. U's got some good stuff going on though.

Also the GC era had an extreme amount of attitude, wackiness, and style for Mario, and the 64 era had a lot of punch to what was already established as "Mario" too without going out the window like the GC did, so going to the bland aesthetic and world of NSMB for everything in the late DS/Wii days and the 3DS/Wii U days burnt a lot of fans who had come on during or greatly enjoyed the prior two generations.

It's a 2D platformer. Upscaling it to 1080p is little more than blowing an image in photoshop.

Yes, they are 3D. They're 3D models with snapshots converted to sprites. The DKC method. It was probably for functional purposes, not lack of work ethic.

Not as far as the series is concerned. Maybe the Ghost House but that's pretty much it, Castle and Forts vary a bit from previous games.

Also, replay Super Mario World and tell me the music isn't recycled. Even the Ghost House and Castle areas share some chords

I wouldn't say boring so much as predictable. Once you got to the flagpole or 3rd coin, you can pretty much tell when the stages are going to end.

Games are made with phone quality because nitendo believes phone games can do numbers pc can't dream of.

I personally prefer NSMBU. The gameplay is very smooth and the characters moveset with the triple jump, and those mid-air stalls is a lot more refined than Rayman Legends or Tropical Freeze.

I'd bet if it had a different artystyle, soundtrack and title but everything else stayed the same NSMBU would be better received.
