I prefer SS to WW and TP. TP had great dungeon and boss design but they were both consistently way too easy, and the wolf shit just felt forced it. WW just had too few dungeons, the sailing was boring, it was too easy, and it had the triforce shards.

I like SS's combat controls, the dungeon design was p good imo, if a little too linear, and decent puzzles. Although I didn't like retreading areas, the repetitive bosses, or the cloud setting in general.

It's the first open world game since Morrowind where the open world actually mattered to the game, the thing I liked the most about Breath of the Wild was it made getting to the destination fun and a puzzle of itself. The Great Plateau is a perfect example of this, people are still discovering new ways to solve the problems presented in just the tutorial area.

After 80 hours I did begin to get bored but I don't regret it.

Zora's Domain was sort of similar in that the game was well designed to funnel you into a linear area, the moment from when you first meet Sidon to when you get to Zora's Domain is probably my favorite part from the whole game.

I don't think it's a perfect game but I think they've got a really good foundation to build upon in later games.

I love Snake Eater but that is wrong, you spend way too much time being bogged down in a menu doing stupid stuff like removing a poison dart that The Fear just shot at you for example. Also the fixed camera angles DO NOT WORK in the more open ended jungle environments that you encounter in Snake Eater, which is why Groznyj Grad is the best part of the whole game.

Ruby/Sapphire are the worst, too much water (meaning everything was full of water pokemon and constant need to use surf and forcing to use repels or get a fight every few steps with the same pokemon over and over), needing pretty much 2 HM bitches (dive? seriously? shit never came back for a reason) and is the start of the weak ass friendly rivals.

Original Diamond/Pearl is up there too, it was a way better game than gen3, but it's slow as shit full of weather and other in-battle effects with unskippable text in battles making it even slower, a 30 FPS 2D game fully displaying the "skill" of Game Freak at the time.

This is a terrible opinion. 4's writing may have had some serious issues but if you played any version of P1 but the PSP version it was practically unplayable.

Also if you really take that much issue with Naoto, Teddie and Yukiko I don't see how you don't take issue with half the cast in P5. The real issue with P4's writing is that the murder mystery is pathetically weak and the game intentionally withholds information about the crimes (like the fact that Adachi was the reporter's security detail at the hotel or whatever it was that allowed him access to her) which makes it actually impossible to solve through anything but guesswork. Nanako's revival is pathetic from a writing standpoint, too, and so is everything after Namatame, really. The confrontation between Adachi and the Investigation Team is very poorly done dialogue wise and should have been expanded at least a bit. Izanami's reveal, while not too detached from everything else thematically, is barely relevant and feels tacked on, so much so that they tried to rectify it in Golden (again, very poorly). Really the issue is the P4 is very clearly low budget and low effort, at least more than the rest of the series, and the writing suffers heavily from a lack of planning and forethought. IIRC they wrote most of the story without actually having decided on a culprit.
Still, thanks to the fact that in P3, 4 and 5 the main cast and story aren't all there really is to the game, ranking it lower than something that plays as poorly as P1 is stupid. I can understand preferring P1's darker tone but you have to concede that even if 4's combat system is just another watered down Press Turn clone, it's better than the mess that is P1's bullshit and you don't have to experience it nearly as much.

P2's combat is actually better. P1's is a messy behemoth with like 17 different (nearly all redundant and one clearly better than the rest) affinities for attacks and a grid based movement system, not to mention an awful encounter rate. One thing that is better in P1 is the dungeon crawling, as it's not as much of a chore as in P2, even if the encounter rate makes it incredibly annoying.

Both P1 and 2 are ridiculously overrated around here because their tone and gameplay is more in line with the rest of the MegaTen franchise. Unfortunately people seem to forget most MegaTen games have decent gameplay to go with that tone. Fuck, SMT I is way older than P1 and 2 and still far more playable and enjoyable. The only good things about Persona 1 and 2 are the story and characters (and maybe Maya's Theme from 2), which are severely underdeveloped in 1 and not nearly as good as people make them out to be in 2. EP's cast are pretty great, though. I'd love to see a reimagining of all of them in P5's engine but as it stands they're fucking awful to play, even if the story and cast (in 2 at least) are worth seeing.

It's barely playable, man. Guards have a much bigger line of sight than the player. It's just not fun when you get noticed by a guard who just turned a corner a kilometer off-center and you couldn't have possibly seen him without waiting for way longer than should be necessary. Obviously it's not meant to be rushed but this makes it seem completely unfair to the player and it means the only viable option is stealth, which is not how the game was actually designed.
