And another thing, that machine that turns crash into, well, crash, was supposedly untested before they used it on Crash, so where the hell did Cortexs other minions come from? Why were they loyal but crash isnt?

What they tried to do with Crash was brainwashing via the Cortex Vortex, which was at the time untested and resulted in failure when first used on Crash. As Crash escaped, they fixed the vortex and used it on the other already evolved animals to enslave them

They were made as you went along the game, first one you encounter is Ripper Roo, who is basically another failed experiment. Then you meet koala kong, not too smart but has the strength. Then it's pinstripe, who is basically Cortex's main dude besides brio.
