Which one do you take?
the "Swörd" of course
>>383036442
2D6 does 2-12 dmg the other sword does 1-12 so that's pretty easy choice
Swörd! of course
Everyone and their dog is using "Swōrd" because muh dps, I'm better than that and watch me win anyway.
Swōrd has higher average damage (7 vs 6.5) and just as importantly, reliable and predictable damage is valuable in its own right. I'd probably pick 2d5 sword over 1d12 too in most situations (.5 lower average damage but it has lower chance of doing 1, 2 or 3 damage).
>tfw dumbfag so I don't know what "1d12" or "2d6" means
>>383039651
>>383039804
this is actually pretty cool, thanks.
>>383039958
1d12 = roll a 12 sided die and the number it shows is the damage
2d6 = roll two 6 sided dice and add the numbers they show
>>383040021
http://catlikecoding.com/anydice.com/ for all your probability needs. It supports complex stuff like xd6 with exploding 6 for Shadowrun, for example, or 2d6, exploding sixes, every exploding six set to 5, only 2 rerolls etc.
>>383038159
More capable player should go for the more reliable option because unthinkably bad luck is the only way they can lose (and conversely, a poor player would have to rely on more common 9s, 10s, 11s and 12s from 1d12 sword in order to stand a chance).
>>383040413
>some shitter from /domg/ is here AGAIN
Why am I not surprised?
2d6 is objectively superior to 1d12. Why does this thread even exist?
>>383040151
I thought 2d6 meant you hit between 2-6 and 1d12 meant 1-12 Im retarded
Only fags use non-standard dice in their games. 2d6 master race. DnD can suck my freeform dick.
>sword
>1d12
Fuck off.
Hey buddy I think you've got the wrong board.
/tg/ is two blocks down.
>>383040151why the fuck is this on /v/ and not /tg/ then? TTG sim vidya games?
"Sword"
2-12 damage.
Sword! is 1-12.
>>383041568
Fuck you.
>>383041568

>video games don't have dice rolls
>>383041643
You have a few though, some ttg give you a download code for the android/ios version of the game. Got ticket to ride and small world on my ipad and it's fun if you have a long ride ahead with a few poeple.
Also acension is a good one that is available
>>383040413
>2d6 is statistically better then 1d12 in all normal circumstances
>this jackhole comes in and tries to justify it
Players with understanding of basic statistics would pick the obviously better option.
>>383041894
>didn't read the unspoilered sentence
Do you have brain problems?
>>383039958
go back to your cod kid
2d6 will most likely be the best weapon but if you encounter enemies with HP between 10-12 the 1d12 weapon would probably be better
>>383036442
2d6 is the objective correct answer unless you're fighting enemies with reductive armor classes, in which cast 1d12 would be better only to pierce the flat reduction.
>>383042664
Wouldn't reduction apply to the entire sum?
Sword number 2
With my shitty rolls I'd rather take a guaranteed base 2 over a possible 1
>>383042741
I was assuming that 2d6 math applies in tabletop as two separate damage sources. If it still only counts a single sum when in questions of resistance, then 2d6 is still the obvious correct answer.
>>383042295
what exactly am I looking at here
>>383043453
I'm not sure, but if I had to guess, back to back comparisons of each of the two possibilities done 100 times ina row.
Apparently the 2D6 isn't just better for the baseline, it apparently is much better for the endgame as well.
>>383039958
That just means you aren't a D&D virgin nerd. Nothing to be ashamed of.
>>383042317
Bingo. The same applies to damage reduction.
>>383043593
well duh, average 7 vs. average 6.5
>>383043593
It's better in the long-term average because the average result is higher (7vs6.5). The only conceivable advantage for 1d12 is rolls 9 through 12 being more common (as can be seen >>383039804) which is hypothetically useful if you can't win any individual roll without those upper-end rolls.
>>383043593
The probability distribution for 100 x 1d12 and 2d6. Basically, a chance for the entire sum of rolls being equal to X. In game terms, it's the average amount of damage you will deal after 100 hits with one or the other weapon. It means that 2d6 has a higher chance to deal more damage after a lot of hits.
This is a chance for a sum being AT LEAST X after 100 rolls.
It depends whether you value your average damage or if you want to hit multiple top end rolls in a row more often.
